If you have both batt eryand power pack, and the se t w i l l not work from ei t he r , but according to the bes tof your knowledge, bo th ba tt er y and power pack a r e O.X., then i t c a n f b i r l ys a f e l y be presumed t h a t t he f a u l t i s i n t he r e c ei ver .

    GEXERkL. absen ce of ii.T. and LOT. v o l t s w i l l usual ly mean that e i ther C%/Por Ca/'P have developed an inte rna l shor t , a fa u l t which i s not uncommon w i t he l ec t r o l y t ic condensers , e spec i a l ly I f a vo l tage i n excess of t he i r r a ted vo l tageha s bcm acc identa l ly been appl ied , and th i s can happen q ui te e as i l y w ith mul t i -vo l t -ge se t s , e.g. i f the p lug were se t a t 107 vo l t s and the se t acc i dent a l lyconnected to , s ay 250 vo l t s , then , i n a l l p robabi l i ty the h igh vo l tage wouldbu r a ou t t he e l e c t r o l y t i c s . I t might, a t th e same time, burn out th e valves.

    Bear i n mind when t e s t i n g vo lta ge s of th e power pack, t ha t t he f i l a m en tvol thge w i l l not be exa ctl y 7.5, un les s your meter i s exac t ly the same res is t ancea s t he 5 valves in se r i es ; t heref ore , don ' t be a larmed if your vol t age reads th i gil .

    - Don't fo rg et thwt C4jP may develop a sh or t- ci rc ui t with or without a goodreason, but you can read i ly check t h i s by te s t in g between pins 1 and 2 of t he i.power pack output socket. This, whil e not ahowing In fi n it y , should show a highr e s i s ~ a n c e d o n ' t f o r g e t t o m ai nt ai n ~ o l a r i t y ) n f a c t , you s ho ul d be a b l e t o s eet h e charging of t h i s condenser from your own meter batt ery . (If hum develop s i nthe se t , then te s t t h i s condenser ' s capac i ty by watch ing it charge through yourown ineter). If no charging t6k es pla ce, the n t h i s condenser has developed an openc . i r cu i t and th i s w i l l cause hm. If t h e s e t hums on A.C. a n improvement Canusual ly be ef fec ted by revers i ng the mains plug.
