OPERATING GUIDELINESPlease follow these rules while using the Athletic & Recreation Centre. Other A&R rules applicable to a specific area are posted throughout the building and must be followed.

1.All visitors must report to the Joan Buddle Service Desk.ServiceStaffmayaskyoutopresentproperID.Youmaybeaskedtoleavethebuildingifyoufailtoprovidetheproperidentificationorproofofmembership.

2.RecreationMembersmaykeeparticles locked intemporary day lockers onlyduringperiodoffacilityuse(rentallockersexcepted).Daylockersleftovernightwithlocksattachedwillhavetheirlocksremovedandcontentswillbesecuredbystaff.Thereisafeetoretrievesecuredarticles.Management is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal property. We strongly recommend you secure all your belongings at all times in the facility.

3.GuestsarewelcometousetheAthletics&RecreationCentrebutmustbesponsoredbyacurrentmembertopurchaseguestpasses.GuestfeepaymentsaremadeattheServiceDesk.

4. Facility use privileges are non-transferable. Recreation/Pulse memberships are for use bypurchasingmemberonly. Ifanon-memberisfoundfraudulentlyusingamembership,bothmemberandnon-memberwilllosecurrentandfuturemembershipprivilegesandtheStudentCodeofConductprotocolswillbefollowed.

5. No personal locks are permitted on rental lockers unless authorized by Athletics & RecreationDepartment.Allpersonalbelongingsmustberemovedfromrentedlockersbytheexpirydateofyourservice.AnyandallarticlesleftbehindareassumedunwantedbytheirownerandwillbedisposedofaftertwomonthsinaccordancewithUniversitypolicyregardinglostandfoundarticles.Management is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal property. 6.ItisimportantthatparticipantswearappropriatefootwearwhenparticipatingintheactivityareaswithintheARC.“StreetWear”shoesarenotallowedinindoorplayareas.

7.Inappropriatebehavioursuchasswearingandphysicalorverbalabusewillresultintheimmediatelossofallcurrentandfuturemembershipprivileges.

PLAY SAFEWewantyourexperienceintheAthleticsandRecreationComplexandStadiumtobefun,enjoyableandgoodstress relief fromthepressuresof studying! Therearemany inherent risksof sportandactivity.Byfollowingsomesimplesafetyrulesyoucanhelppreventinjuriesandplaysafe.1) Haveyoueatentoday?Makesureyoueatahealthymealandhydratewellbeforeanykindof workoutoractivity(usuallyanhourormorepriortoexercise).2) Drinkwaterwhileworkingouttopreventdehydration.3) Warmupadequatelyforthesportoractivityyouareplaying.Ifyouneedsomeideas,speaktothe personaltrainersinthePulse.4) Wearallmandatoryandrecommendedsafetyequipmentforyoursport– eye goggles are mandatory for playing squash,wearahelmetwhileskateboarding,cyclingorin-lineskating. Usesafetyharnessesduringclimbingactivities.5) Inthelockerrooms,wearflipflopsintheshoweranddryoffaftershoweringbeforeenteringthe lockerarea.6) InthePulse,remembertoputyourequipmentawayafteruseandtakeextraprecautionswhen puttingdumbbellsbackontotheracktoavoidpinchedfingers.Askatrainerifyouareunfamiliar withtheuseofaparticularpieceofequipment.Theyaretheretohelp!7) Movingsoccer,basketballandvolleyballnetscanbedangerousifyouarenottrained.Pleasedo notmovethem,justaskforassistancefromtheServiceDesk.8) Knowyourlimit!Everyonehasgooddaysandbaddays.Listentoyourbodyandonlypush yourselfwhenitisappropriateandtakedaysoffofactivitywhenitmakessenseforyou.9) Rememberit’sjustagame!Thereiszero tolerance for aggressive physical or verbal abuse.

ATHLETE’S EDGEOverviewThe Athlete’s Edge at McMaster offers a wide variety of training and development services needed to complete and care for an Athlete in all stages of development. We offer Strength and condi-tioning training to Athlete’s looking to build upon their sport skills and give them the edge above competition. This training, led by Steve Lidstone, our full time trainers and student interns, can offer both in and off-season training for individuals, groups and teams of all sport backgrounds. First we assess the athlete, design individualized programs based off of these results, then train them through the programs. In addition to these training service, we also have our full function-ing Sports Medicine Clinic to offer our Athletes for all sport rehabilitation and injury maintenance needs including Physio therapy, Massage Therapy, Athletic Therapy, as well as our Concussion Management and Nutrition Programs, to name a few.
