• The business began in 1940 by brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald in a little town in California

• Some of McDonalds top competitors are Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and Arby’s. Also more growing threats including Subway and little Caesars hot-n-ready pizzas.

• McDonalds target market is focused on college age kids and also families on the go. It is a quick, easy, low cost solution to dinner.

McDonalds has come a long way with their advertising. They no longer use cartoon characters and cheesy commercials they have gone towards a more hip edge aimed more towards the college and high school crowd.

• My goal for McDonalds is to continue with the social media they have already tapped into and advance it further. The three goals are going to be

-Managing the consumers requests

-Building the business

-Develop a greater outreach

McDonalds currently has a great advertising program built. They utilize most social media mediums already partly by force. With the size of the company being as big as it is they are going to receive some ridicule from consumers, which they need to address. One major subject that seems to be on every ones mind is how healthy McDonalds is. Social media is one way to address this issue.

Advergames is a great way to include children into the advertising. Which is one of McDonalds major consumer group.

Facebook: can be used to promote new products. You could also offer coupons for people “liking” the McDonalds page.

Twitter: can also be used to function in the same way as Facebook. It will be a great tool to help manage consumer feedback and also to tell the consumer population about new and upcoming items or promotions. Since both of these are free the cost would simply be managing them.

Foursquare: Another great free option for advertising. You can give out coupons and offers to the people who become mayor.

You will be able to monitor the success of the social media many ways:

To stay up to date on mommy blogs there is the blogger tool

For the advergames you will be able to monitor the success by the number of children logging on to play and the traffic of the site

Other social media tools like Foursquare is also another option to track the numbers of users.
