The Position The McCrory School District, McCrory, Arkansas, School Board, is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2020. McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the School Board in identifying and screening the candidates.

The Qualifications The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics. The McCrory School District is seeking a Superintendent: • Who is dedicated, proactive, and has successful administrative experience, with an emphasis on strong leadership and organizational skills, and is capable of making tough and timely decisions, while maintaining firmness and fairness with all stakeholders.

• Who is a person of integrity, honesty, and high moral character.

• Who has successfully demonstrated an understanding of Arkansas school finance and teaching/learning, along with the ability to delegate when appropriate and engage in problem solving strategies to address needs of the District. • Who is a good communicator, maintains high visibility and involvement in the schools/community, and has a good understanding of small schools. • Who will become a part of our Community and demonstrate a commitment to the District and our students.

• Who has proven performance in networking skills, marketing and public relations.

The District

McCrory Elementary has Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade. McCrory High has 7th – 12th grades. McCrory offers a gifted and talented program and an EAST program. McCrory High School partners with Arkansas State University at Newport to offer concurrent credit for select classes. McCrory also offers a variety of courses virtually via Virtual Arkansas. Extra-Curricular activities include football, basketball, baseball, softball, cheerleading, National Honor Society, Drama Club, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Art Club, Book Club, Trap Shooting, and Golf.

The Community McCrory is located in Woodruff County in northeast Arkansas, 82 miles northeast of Little Rock, 58 miles southwest of Jonesboro and 35 miles east of Searcy. Memphis, Tennessee is 72 miles to the east. The city of 1,555 residents is located in the Delta along the Cache River. McCrory is a farming community and has some of the best duck hunting around. The district is located 70 miles north of Stuttgart, AR, which is home to Mack’s Prairie Wings. The city has a sports complex with walking trails, exercise equipment and playground equipment. Major employers include ARCare, Centoco Manufacturing, Woodruff County Nursing Home and McCrory Schools. Other area employers include Walmart Distribution in Searcy, Shearer’s in Newport, Arkansas State Penitentiary in Newport and a Federal Penitentiary in Forest City. Unity Harris Medical Center is located 30 miles north in Newport, Crossridge Community Hospital in Wynne, Unity Hospital in Searcy, local ARCare clinics provide medical care for the residents. Annual events in McCrory include Mosquito Fest help in downtown McCrory and the Three County Fair. The Ken Theatre host many musical and drama events during the year. Higher educational opportunities are available from Arkansas State University at Newport; Harding University in Searcy; Arkansas State University in Jonesboro; East Arkansas Community College in Forest City.

Board of Education The Board of Education consists of five members, elected to serve five-year terms. The incumbency of the members ranges from 1 to 15 years.

An application for superintendent/principal should include: A letter setting forth personal qualifications, experiences and reasons for interest in the position. A current résumé. A completed application form Reference letters, certificates and licenses, and academic transcripts from colleges/universities indicating degree(s).

Candidates are asked not to directly contact board members. Any effort to do so may eliminate them from consideration. Names of applicants will be held in strict confidence whenever possible; however, McPherson & Jacobson complies with individual states’ Freedom of Information laws. In the final process, the school board may visit the district where the candidate is employed, but will not proceed without the knowledge and consent of the candidate.
