Yes! You made it. Summer is just around the corner – longer days, warm nights and plenty of opportunities to kick back, relax and even play in a sandbox or two. It’s time for fun, food and festivals with a promise to feel alive, engaged and inspired. If you could create the perfect summer, what would it look like? Cast a vision now for more joy, more play and abundance.

Summer brings a different pace and energy with many rewards if we allow ourselves the freedom to embrace it. Regardless of our responsibilities, we can create shifts in our experience through a change in mindset and focused action. The key is to set the intention now to create time and space to receive the gifts of this season. Mark your calendar for the next 90 days as a time to renew your body, mind and spirit. Try something new, and imagine doing at least one thing that brings you pure joy each and every day, and watch what happens.

Think back on your best summer ever, and notice what you were doing. What made it the best? Who was there? How did you feel? Who did you get to be? Close your eyes, and see yourself experiencing it now. Allow yourself to feel it. Then notice everything about it.

What were the qualities of the environment, the circumstances and the activities you were engaged in? What was important? What one thing could you do right now to create a similar feeling? If it takes awhile or some of the not-so-great summers come to mind, simply breathe and imagine those thoughts moving past you like clouds on a summer day. Now, breathe again and invite joy into the present moment. Notice the images that come to mind as you do.

Often our expectations for this season come with memories of summers past, some even from our childhood. We know what it feels like to experience relaxation, freedom and play. We also know what it feels like to feel disappointment and discouragement. What if the feelings of joy you dream about are available to you right now in the present moment, regardless of circumstances? Aspects of these experiences are available now with focus and a shift in perspective. Thoughts create feelings, informing our actions and shaping results.

You deserve to live a life of joy. It is your birthright. Invite discovery, resilience and freedom into your day. Cast a vision now for how you want to feel this summer and begin creating that experience. Hold it lightly, and be open to gifts of the present moment.

Danskin & Jump StreetFueling Youth Entrepreneurship

In early 2011, a real estate developer who also happens to be a major supporter of Jump Street, bought the Danskin factory in York, Pa. Shortly before that, the Danskin brand made the move to manufacture its products in other countries. Consequently, the

supporter was looking for ways to liquidate the contents of the factory because he had other plans for the building. He sold off much of the machinery and moved

the clothing inventory to the building where Jump Street maintains its administrative offices. Without hesitation, Jumpstreet used the inventory to teach students business and marketing skills by selling the garments via various platforms. The revenue could accomplish many things; it could fuel the administration of the program, hire a business trainer/mentor, create employment opportunities for youth and offer low-cost wardrobe, training and costume elements to schools and low-income youth.

Since then, dozens of youth have been involved, many of them managing direct sales and/or inventory. With sales reaching $40,000, there are many areas of endeavor remaining to be realized. Dan Deitchman’s generosity has helped Jump Street, area youth and dance students as far away as Florida in very significant ways. Jumpstreet looks forward to further honoring his generosity by continuing to use the donation to enhance young people’s lives. UC

As responsibilities pile on, having “me” time is important to one’s health. It helps to know you are not alone. Sisters & Friends Getaway on Martha’s Vineyard hosts women friends and strangers from around the country for a no-agenda getaway. Sharing experiences of being black women in this society make friendships come fast and natural. Friendly cliques form and lead to discussions that promote ways to support and lift each other up.

Here are five benefits of a girlfriends’ getaway:

• See yourself in others. When women come together in a relaxed atmosphere, they are often relieved to find others with similar challenges.

• Physical Reaction. According to a UCLA study, when women spend time with friends, hormonal changes occur from the bond of friendship and from being in a safe environment to share and de-stress.

• Lift Burdens. A gathering of women often evolves into significant testimonies resulting in releasing anxieties as sisterfriends listen, understand and cheer them on.

• Share Fix-It Strategies. “What would you do?” is likely asked and answered more often by a female. In a comfortable setting, women offer ways they handle issues and won’t hold back in sharing advice on how to handle yours.

• Take A Way. Reflecting during time away on new approaches to one’s challenges helps to face what will be there when your time away is over.

Most of all girlfriends’ getaways are fun. Connie Portis is the host of Sisters & Friends Getaway to Martha’s Vineyard. It’s fun, affordable and necessary! Roundtrip chartered bus from Harrisburg. Visit sistersandfriends.com for more information or call (412) 391-8208.

Who are you? My name is Dimitra Diggs. I am a woman who is passionate about style, fashion and my community – a small city girl who has always had big city dreams.

What is Urban Snob? Urban Snob is a style blend of where street meets chic.

Why did you start Urban Snob? I wanted to bring creative and unique accessories and handbags to Central Pa. It was just as important for the boutique to look the part of a contemporary, cool and hip place to shop.

As a business owner, how do you overcome challenges? There are definitely challenges as a business owner. When things get crazy, I search for inner peace through prayer. This allows me to have a level

head and approach things impassively. I try to always remain positive in all situations so that “pure energy” gets returned to me.

What makes a great leader in your opinion, and how do you relate that to your business practices? A great leader is one that is honest, committed and has the ability to inspire. I am more motivated by someone that encourages me and makes me believe I can do my best.

What do you look for when merchandising your store? Buying for the store is the most fun part of my business. It allows me to show my creativity. I look for statement pieces that you will be able to use in your wardrobe forever, and I also like to mix it up with what’s current and fresh. I like anything that is different and unique.

How do you stay ahead of the trends? To stay ahead of the trends, I spend alot of time researching what is up and coming and I will travel to NY and LA to see what kind of vibe the people are wearing in those areas. I then try update my customer base on what is current through my social networks. I always get happy when I have a piece of jewelry or a handbag before it is seen on TV on a celebrity. It brings creditbility to my keen eye for what is hot.

What do you do as business owner to stay inspired? I travel alot. and I love to people watch. During my travels, I get to meet some of the most interesting and cool people. Everyone has a story to tell, and listening to their stories inspires me to continue to bring some pretty neat things to this area

What are your Top 3 summer accessory choices and how would you style it? A statement necklace will always jazz up a plain shirt or tank top and pull your look together. Secondly, you can never go wrong with a great handbag. The fringe look is a trend that is back. We have fringe bags in stock now that will pair perfectly with your spring/summer looks. Sunglasses are always a go to when wanting to add a little something extra to your style. Also, we are so in love with the color of the year, radiant orchid. UC
