What is Kodomo-no-hi?
It is on May 5th to wish children’s health growth and happiness. Kodomo- no-hi means children’s day but it is more for boys because there is Hinamatsuri for girls on March 3rd.
You put up Koinobori(Fish shaped cloth) to wish success and display Kabuto(warrior’s helmet) to wish health.
Food
Kashiwa-mochi and chimaki is popular food for Kodomo-no-hi.
Kashiwa-mochi It is a rice cake containing bean jam wrapped in an oak leaf. An oak leaf doesn’t fall before there is a new leaf bud.→It represents the idea that parents won’t die before their children have a baby(The family line will not break.)
Chimaki-It is a rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves. It is said that chimaki avoids difficultyies.
