May / June Newsletter Welcome to our bi-monthly newsletter about our running club, here in Paphos. It includes information about the races we’ve participated in, our results, any general information about us and what preparations we’re doing for upcoming races. March/April There are two marathon races in March, so we adjusted our weekly training schedule to concentrate on these races. It was all getting a bit serious until Debbie floated the idea of entering a team into the Legion Run which this year was based in Larnaca. It’s a 5 km run over an obstacle course, comprising 20 obstacles made up of just about anything, but for sure included fire, mud and barbed wire. Individuals could attend, but you really need team members to give you a leg up over that wall or drag you out of the mud. Eventually, after a lot of deliberating and frantic emails, we entered a team of 10 people and had an absolutely fantastic time, enjoyed by all. By the time we finished the race, we were all covered in mud. Running, racing, training, always.... together May 2014

Welcome to our bi-monthly newsletter about our running club, here in Paphos. It includes information about the races we’ve participated in, our results, any general information about us and what preparations we’re doing for upcoming races.

March/April

There are two marathon races in March, so we adjusted our weekly training schedule to concentrate on these races.

May / June Newsletter

Earlier on in March 11 of our members entered into the Paphos Half Marathon and 10km races. Preparations went well and we had good performances from them. Fiona finished 1st in her age group in the Half Marathon. In the 10km race Dave and Sue both finished 1st in their age groups while John, Gerry and Collette finished 3rd in their age groups. There were similar races in Limassol the following week, 5 members entered, one in the Half Marathon and 5 in the 10km.

In April we took possession of our new race shirts with our new sponsor’s logo (Hydro Jet Services) on the back. Here’s a group photograph of some club members at Corallia Beach Hotel car park, ready for a Saturday morning run. This is a move away from our traditional race colours of orange, to blue and white, which are our sponsor’s colours, and a style change. The girls didn’t want a vest type top; they preferred something a bit more comfortable for running in the heat and so opted for a racing back top. The guys just went along with whatever they wanted; after all it’s just a vest!!

This all coincided with our decision to overhaul the website to promote a more professional image that reflected our standing in the racing community in Cyprus. Our website address and details are listed at the end of our newsletter.

May / June Janet has distributed the new race schedule for May and it’s available for download from our website. A lot of members are planning to race in the Paphos Round which this year has a different format. It will now include a 10 km and 4 km race followed a children’s race around the harbour. For details of other forthcoming races, see our race calendar on the website. In June we have our bi-monthly meeting, held at DT’s Sunset Bar on the Tomb of the Kings Road, no doubt there’ll be further discussions about running in the Istanbul Marathon in November.
