From the Desk of Fr. Beckman:As Catholic Christians think about how often we in-
voke the Most Holy Trinity. The making of the sign of
the cross professes faith in both the redemption of hu-
mankind by Christ and in the Trinity. It was practiced
from the earliest centuries. Saint Augustine in (431 A.D.) men-
tioned and described it many times in his sermons and letters. In
those days, Christians made the sign of the cross (Redemption)
with three fingers (Trinity) on their foreheads. The words ("In the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost") were
added later. Almost two hundred years before Augustine, in the
third century, Tertullian had already reported this touching and
beautiful early Christian practice: “In all our undertakings —
when we enter a place or leave it; before we dress; before we
bathe; when we take our meals; when we light the lamps in the
evening; before we retire at night; when we sit down to read; be-
fore each new task — we trace the sign of the cross on our fore-
heads.” We, too, should invoke our God before each endeavor
reminding ourselves that it is through the grace of God, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit that we are able to accomplish the great
work we have been commissioned to do.
Fr. David
This Monday, May 30th is
Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is about remember-
ing and honoring all brave and
courageous deceased veterans who answered our nation’s call by
fighting under its flag in the armed forces of the Marine Corps, the
Navy, the Army, the Air Force, or the Coast Guard, and all who pa-
triotically supported them in any way, especially in the National
Guard, the Reserves, the VFW, the American Legion and the Aux-
iliary. It’s about recognizing that we, as a people, did not get our
liberty and freedom by accident or good fortune alone, but only
through the valor of many who gave their lives in service to our
nation. Many sacrifices were made to achieve the freedom for
which we long, justice for the oppressed, and that liberty is always
the achievement of courage. And so, today we pay tribute to all
who have fallen and we will forever honor their memories; we will
forever search for their comrades, the POW’s and MIA’s; and we
trust that our country will forever offer a solemn pledge to preserve
and provide the security for our citizens and secure the peace for
which they so nobly fought. May God bless you, our deceased vet-
erans, and may God bless America.
Fr. David
Solemnity of the Most Holy TrinityHappy Trinity Sunday! In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus
declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Fa-
ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological
words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The imma-
nent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the
inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We
see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and prom-
ises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in
the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household manage-
ment." The economic Trinity is our three-Personed God's relation-
ship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing
relationship with us.
Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to
imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one
another in community. However, this is not limited only to those
close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate
the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love
and care in a life-giving way. "Go therefore ?"
Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is in-
vited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the mar-
gins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a
distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even
the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create
something beautiful-a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of
heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the rela-
tionships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you?
How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you
creating something beautiful?

Prayer for the FallenGod our creator and sustainer,
today our country brings to our memory
those who have defended this nation in
times of trouble.
They have sacrificed their lives to pro-
tect our shores

Bring all those who have died in service to our country

and open your Sacred Heart to give them peace and comfort.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
