SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER “There is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life

for his friends.” John 15:13

Jesus willingly gave his life so that you and I may receive salvation. We are his disciples. Fr. Rey reminded us last week that a disciple is a learner one who imitates his or her master. And we are ‘branded’ – Jesus said, “They will know you are my disciples if you imitate the way I loved.” And how does Jesus love? We look to the cross, and see his sacrificial love.

Memorial Day is a day when we pay our respects to the military men and women who showed great love- a love steeped in sacrifice and service for others. They imitated Jesus in their willingness to live out: “There is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends.” Their sacri-fice was offered for the greater good of our freedom and safety.

It is through the tears of their families that we have the freedoms we often take for granted. To the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families, we send you our prayers and sincere gratitude for your love and sacrifice.

May God bless you and keep you safe until you are once more in the arms of your loved ones. May we look to the Lord who offers us peace…peace the world cannot give. May we also look each day to the Holy Spirit, sent in his name, who will “teach and remind you everything I told you.”

Let us, the living, be willing to model Jesus’ great love each day in laying down our lives for others. .

Sixth Sunday of Easter

Dear Parish Families: In 2020, Queen of Apostles Parish will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary. As part of the celebration, we are putting together a 60th Anniversary Parish Directory and would like all parish families to have their picture taken this summer for inclusion in the Directory. This is a great opportunity to have a formal picture taken of your entire family for FREE! When was the last time you had a professional picture taken of you or your en-tire family? These professional photos will make great gifts for parents, grandparents and children or just for you. The photos could also be great for your 2019 Christmas Cards. There is no sitting fee and every family who has their picture taken will receive a FREE 8x10 family photo and a FREE copy of the Parish Directory when it is published early next year, just for participating. If we get 200 families participating, Lifetouch will publish our Directory in hardcover a great keepsake for our Dia-mond Jubilee.

Dear Queen of Apostles Parishioners, Thank you for your very generous contributions to Get On the Bus. This year we received $2200 in donations.

The money will go towards the bus going to Salinas Valley State Pris-on on June 22nd. This will cover over half the cost of the bus and will allow 20 families from all over the Bay area to visit their fa-thers in prison. Last year the kids enjoyed the precious time they spent with their dads so much. They laughed with them, played

ball, got their faces painted, ate lunch, and were treated so well by the guards. In fact, the Sr. Warden came to all four rooms where the families were visiting and expressed her sincere apprecia-tion to the GOTB staff for their effort. She was touched by what was told her about our church families generous donations. She mentioned that this event is for the kids but also said how much it means to the inmates. All the kid’ dads wrote letters to their children toward the end of their visit to read later. It was heartbreaking and heart-warming all at the same time. Tear were shed but they were really good tears. Thank you so much for making this possible. The Social Justice Committee

We lovingly pray for those in our Parish and families who can-not join us at Mass especially Marilyn English, Loraine Rau-chle, Joel Rivera, Barbara Mertzlufft, Antonia Luna, Janet Decker, Barbara Carrillo. Please let us also pray for all our servicemen and women who serve in the Armed Forces through-out the world and remember them in our hearts today and eve-ryday. We remember those dearly departed in our Queen of Apostles family and in our own families: Audrey Peal, Eliza-beth “Betty” Einhorn, Carol Martin Schmidt,

Peacemakers St. Joanna The Myrrh Bearer

Joanna was a follower of Jesus and one of the wom-en who came to the tomb with “spices and oint-ments” to anoint the body of Jesus. Joanna is named by the Orthodox Church as one of the women who came to the tomb, found it empty and attended by angels. They returned to the Apostles to tell them that the angels had said that Christ was risen from the dead. Their testimony was initially dismissed but later turned out to be true. The women who followed Jesus in the early Church were not always mentioned by name, but were sig-nificant in that they were the first (including Mary Magdalene) to tell of the Resurrection.
