Acts1:1–14Inthefirstbook,Theophilus,IwroteaboutallthatJesusdidandtaughtfromthebeginninguntilthedaywhenhewastakenuptoheaven,aftergivinginstructionsthroughtheHolySpirittotheapostleswhomhehadchosen.Afterhissufferinghepresentedhimselfalivetothembymanyconvincingproofs,appearingtothemduringfortydaysandspeakingaboutthekingdomofGod.Whilestayingwiththem,heorderedthemnottoleaveJerusalem,buttowaitthereforthepromiseoftheFather.“This,”hesaid,“iswhatyouhaveheardfromme;forJohnbaptizedwithwater,butyouwillbebaptizedwiththeHolySpiritnotmanydaysfromnow.”Sowhentheyhadcometogether,theyaskedhim,“Lord,isthisthetimewhenyouwillrestorethekingdomtoIsrael?”Hereplied,“ItisnotforyoutoknowthetimesorperiodsthattheFatherhassetbyhisownauthority.ButyouwillreceivepowerwhentheHolySpirithascomeuponyou;andyouwillbemywitnessesinJerusalem,inallJudeaandSamaria,andtotheendsoftheearth.”Whenhehadsaidthis,astheywerewatching,hewasliftedup,andacloudtookhimoutoftheirsight.Whilehewasgoingandtheyweregazinguptowardheaven,suddenlytwomeninwhiterobesstoodbythem.Theysaid,“MenofGalilee,whydoyou

standlookinguptowardheaven?ThisJesus,whohasbeentakenupfromyouintoheaven,willcomeinthesamewayasyousawhimgointoheaven.”ThentheyreturnedtoJerusalemfromthemountcalledOlivet,whichisnearJerusalem,aquartermileaway.Whentheyhadenteredthecity,theywenttotheroomupstairswheretheywerestaying,Peter,andJohn,andJames,andAndrew,PhilipandThomas,BartholomewandMatthew,JamessonofAlphaeus,andSimontheZealot,andJudassonofJames.Allthesewereconstantlydevotingthemselvestoprayer,togetherwithcertainwomen,includingMarythemotherofJesus,aswellashisbrothers.
