WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD WITH A PETITION FOR CHURCH CLOSURE- For a few years now we talked about the necessity of closing church buildings in our area for several reasons. Over the last 5 decades we have seen a shift in population and especially in registered parishioners and people actually at-tending Mass. We are thankful for the Diocese relieving us of 1.7 million in debt from our parish churches that had debt and our school that closed last June 2019. But we also know our budget is still in deficit spending even after the reduction of staff and other things. We just have too many gas bills, electric bills, water bills, insurance bills, and maintenance and upkeep of buildings that are aging. With this in mind, I talked with the Pastoral and Finance Councils and we agreed that we need to petition to close the Our Lady of Loreto Site. It is in need of a Boiler, a roof, Doors, and windows, emergency lighting, as well as other things. The total cost of all these items is well over $700,000. We are still awaiting to hear about the sale of St. Pamphilus properties, which if it goes through will also help our long term financial picture. It is always sad to have to move in the direction to close and sell church buildings, especially when they brought such happy and God filled moments to us through baptisms, weddings, confirmations, and especially the daily and weekly celebration of the Eucharist, not to mention the times of fun through many fund-raisers, and fun events that brought people together to bond. May God be with us in this time of great change, not only with the churches, but also with this pandem-ic. May our faith get us through and lead us closer as a new parish family, closer to God, and closer to one another! Please feel free to contact me or send feedback to me over the next 30 days of any comments or concerns you may have, particularly with this decision. Emails can be received at [email protected]. Letters can be mailed to Attn: Fr. Jim Bachner 1810 Belasco Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15216 Fr. Jim Bachner Pastor
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT In the spirit of St. Teresa of Kolkata, we honor Christ by coming together as one faith community with the pledge to reach out to the lonely and less fortunate. Our mission is to engage in un-selfish acts of kindness and compassion, sharing our blessings with a humble heart.
FOCUS—God makes himself known to us. Knowing God in a way that brings eternal life is no casual acquaintance, but an intimate friend-ship. When we know someone as a friend , we know likes and dislikes, character and personali-ty. God knows us intimately and, amazingly, desires to be known, and makes himself known to those created in his image. IN PREPARATION FOR PENTECOST Saint Teresa of Kolkata Parish will once again pray the Novena to the Holy Spirit. The prerecorded videos for each day of the Novena will be posted on our website, and on Facebook – DAILY at 9:00AM from Friday, May 22, through Saturday, May 30. The videos will all remain available online through the website and on our YouTube channel. PRE-BAPTISM CLASS is required for all first-time parents. Parents are asked to call Patty Schwerin at 412-563-0858 to register and arrange for a scheduled time for this class GODPARENT / SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS- The Catholic Church guidelines to be a sponsor and godparent mandate a registered, active pa-rishioner who is baptized, confirmed and practic-ing the Catholic faith and is at least 16 years old. To be active one must attend Mass on a regular basis. When you meet the requirements, you will need a Sponsor Letter to present to the par-ish where the sacrament will be received.
