LAGNIAPPE Pentecost Sunday

May 24, 2015

Dear Friends, The season of Easter comes to an end this weekend with the Feast of Pentecost. Fifty Days of Easter Joy have allowed us to breathe deeply the hope of Easter resurrection and dispel all sadness in the face of death’s threat. Looking back our parish has celebrated during these sixty days the two sacraments of Initiation : Holy Communion and Confirmation, the first being the Sacrament of Baptism. Holy Communion is the repeatable Sacrament of initiation, being incorporated, literally becoming the Body of Christ, for others. This Monday is Memorial Day, remembering those who have given their lives for the sake of our country. Sometimes it is difficult to push aside the distractions to notice that men and women today are serving to not only defend our nation but give assistance and help to many people in many parts of the world. If we don’t’ have a son or daughter serving we may neglect remembering. I hope you will join us for Mass on Memorial Day morning 8:30am to remember and give Thanks for those who have and are serving. Work continues on the construction projects. As you may know construction on Preschool renovations is underway. Next weekend will be the ordination to priesthood of three men, Brad Doyle, Matthey Graham and Ruben Dykes. We can give thanks to God for these generous men and pray for their future ministry. You may remember that Brad Doyle spent a year here while working at St Michael High School. Hope you are having a good beginning of the summer. Love,

If you feel God may be calling you to this ministry, call or email Father Matt Dupré at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give”

A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

My Coke Rewards: Send in Coke Caps and these can be donated to the school where they will be used to purchase items for the school. Community Coffee Cash for Schools program, Box Tops for Education, and Campbell Soup Labels: Simply cut the labels and send them in to SJV. Monies earned help obtain added resources for the classrooms. Target Take Charge of Education: By simply shopping with your Target Credit Card®, Target Debit Card® or Target® Visa® Credit Card and designating our school, a percentage of the amount of each purchase you make is donated back to our school.
