MANAGER MUSINGS by Lee Morris I know that as we go through these uncertain times, I always remember what my Football coach told me in High School- Tough Times never last, but tough people do! Tri- Par people are tough and resilient, and we will get through this, just like any other challenge life throws at us. We want to take this time to say thanks to our residents for your understanding and for following the guidelines set by the CDC and our Governor. We know that staying close to home has kept our residents safer during this time. Many repairs and updates to our clubhouse were done while we were closed. We had our sound/communications system replaced to stop all the feedback during Board Meetings and special events. The sound was optimized so those watching Board meetings over the community channel can better hear the business end of Tri-Par. We also had some electrical issues fixed near the stage and in the attic. As I write this short article, we are still in the middle of the Governors “stay at home” order. We are working on a new website design that will have so much more information about Tri-Par at your fingertips. Watch for it to go live in the next few weeks. The building on the corner of Desoto and Tri-Par is progressing quickly, for all those people that want a condo “she shed” or “man cave”. Once it’s finished it will be a great place to park your Ferrari or Lamborghini. I plan to host Movie Night on May 28 where we will once again try to watch the great John Wayne as “Red” Adair in Hell Fighters. It is the story of the rough & tumble guys that use explosives to put out oil well fires. It’s a great cast and has some even better location work. Even Johnny Carson interviewed Red Adair because he told such interesting stories. Please make sure you safely check on your neighbors and help each other when you can. It’s the Tri-Par way! MANAGER MUSINGS by Lee Morris

I know that as we go through these uncertain times, I always remember what my Football coach told me in High School- Tough Times never last, but tough people do! Tri-Par people are tough and resilient, and we will get through this, just like any other challenge life throws at us.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR

Meet Karen Send. Karen lives in a beautiful newly manufactured modular home on 5026 Pebble Beach Ave. She has been married to Jerry Send for 34 years, which combined two households resulting in five children and seven grandchildren. The home on Pebble Beach was the culmination of many other

(4) homes that were purchased, renovated, rented, and sold in order to eventually accommodate the wonderful home that they have now. Karen and Jerry found out about a home in Tri-Par in 2003 from a realtor in Michigan whom they were friends with. Their first purchase was sight unseen, then with other purchases and investments, renovations, rentals, and selling they were able to purchase a "tear down" and replace it with a lovely manufactured home. They would come to Tri-Par two weeks in the fall to get their rentals

ready and two weeks in the spring to close up the homes. for the summer. Retirement came in 2015, retiring from working and owning a lumberyard in Michigan. The lumberyard came after Karen worked for 17 years for Michigan Bell Telephone, working and owning a pizza shop, working at Meijer grocery store, and 18 years of clerking for the Michigan village of Kingsley. Karen is the person who makes announcements at the Fun and Sports dinner, pool parties, and the Michigan Club. She took over for Rich Jamrosy when he was unable to come down to Tri-Par and Karen has continued to be a leader and help with those groups. Karen enjoys line dancing, reading and working for the Flea Market. Her wonderful smile makes you feel at ease and her sense of camaraderie is very welcoming. Thank you, Karen and Jerry, for all you do.

FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Choose Faith, Wisdom, and Prayer

When the month of March began, I had no idea that

drastic changes would be coming to my life. The Corona Virus Disease which began in 2019, abbreviated COVID-19, has brought changes to the lives of everyone in every country of our world. It has brought physical separation from others, loss of jobs and economic hardship to many, caused the wearing of face masks and gloves, orders to stay home, caused empty shelves and shortages at grocery stores, crowded hospitals, many sick and dying people, shortages of protection masks, eye shields and other protective equipment for health-care workers, and the need for more health-care workers. COVID-19 has completely changed our lives. It is unknown when the COVID-19 Pandemic will be under control and some form of normalcy will return to our daily lives.

The uncertainty of what is happening in our lives has resulted in fear, worry, and panic building in the lives of many people. What should we do? First, let’s remember to let faith rule our hearts and not fear. I absolutely believe we should take this pandemic seriously, use precaution and exercise wisdom. At the same time, we can do so while keeping our faith in God. If God took care of us before this pandemic, please know that He has not changed. Although everything is changing at rapid speed, God is not. He is the same faithful God before this outbreak that He will be once it passes. Our faith can be steady because our God is faithfully unchanging. This truth alone can strengthen us not to give in to fear. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Second, it is important to exercise wisdom instead of becoming paralyzed by worry. If there is an action you can do to protect yourself, do it. Use wisdom and listen to sound advice. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has offered many ways people like you and I can do our part to slow the spread of this disease at www.cdc.gov. It is also wise to ensure the sources of the information we consume are credible. There is a lot of false information circulating about the coronavirus that can be harmful by leading people to make unwise decisions based on information that is simply untrue. Read credible news outlets and gain information from the CDC, World Health Organization, and the Florida state or local health department.

Third, do not forget the power of prayer. Prayer is the exact prescription the Bible gives us to cure anxiety. It’s easy to want to look at all the news outlets and overthink all the possible negative outcomes that can take place. All that will do is rob us of the peace God promises us for today. Philippians 4:6 tells us: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and

Page 7: MAY 2020 - Special DistrictMay.pdf · May 19, 6:30 pm – Combined Workshop & Board Mtg June 16, 6:30 pm – Combined Workshop & Board Mtg July 21, 6:30 pm – Combined Workshop &

petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” We can panic, or we can pray, but we can’t do both. Jesus called His church a “house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13), and now it is our time. It’s time to pray for God’s intervention to stop the spread of this disease. It’s time to ask for healing. It’s time to ask for peace and comfort for those who have lost loved ones. It’s time for us to ask for direction and discernment for our leaders and our homes. Prayer is powerful and effective, and if we are too busy panicking instead of praying, we forfeit our greatest strength.

In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, we have the power to choose our response. When we choose faith over fear, wisdom over worry, and prayer over panic, we can experience the “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding” that we read about in Philippians 4:7. In doing so, we become the light of Christ in a very dark situation.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak all church services have been cancelled until it is safe to resume. During our time of social distancing, our Pastor Donald Olson will give a recorded sermon with special music each Sunday at 11:00 AM on Channel 195.

FLEA MARKET

A huge thanks to all the folks that helped with the 2020 Flea Market. One hundred and fifty (150) folks volunteered their time and energy to pull this off for the benefit of the residents of Tri-Par. The efforts were recognized with gross receipts of over $7,887 for the two-day sale. This was $1,000 less than last year but based on the timing of the sale with the Coronavirus this is incredible. The fantastic news is that the scrap metal sales were $3,962 this year so overall we are ahead of last year by $618!!! In total the gross receipts for 2020 are:

2 Day Sale $ 7,887 Scrap Metal $ 3,962 $11,849 We could not do this without all of the donations that everyone made, the support of the Board, and most importantly the tremendous effort put forth by the seasoned volunteers and the new members to the Flea Market family. A special thanks to all that contribute to the scrap metal effort; those that bring every scrap of metal over to us to those that pick it up and the large crew that tear the metal down to get every penny out of it. The efforts in this area have tremendously increased and we are encouraged by the dedication to this effort. We will continue to advertise this effort and the benefits it brings to our park. Scrap sales 2018 $ 398 2019 $2,044 2020 $3,962 !!!

We are so proud of the whole team…. this really shows what we can do together! It is a lot of hard work, but it is the laughter, companionship, and the sense of giving back that makes it all worthwhile. We were unable to thank our Volunteers with an ice cream social this year so an extra scoop next year.

Huge thanks to Harold Bolyard who has agreed to be the Summer contact for the Flea Market donations along with support by Daryl VonHoldt and Kevin Stutsman. Please call Harold at 717-433-7216 through November to schedule any pickups.

With sincere thanks to all that helped make this a success! Darlene Thompson

FUN AND SPORTS

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER – MAY 7, 2020 Fun and Sports sponsors an event each year for the National Day of Prayer. The National Day of Prayer for 2020 is May 7th. This year it is under the direction of Harold Bolyard. It is scheduled to be in the Ken Parent Memorial Garden at 9 AM on that day with a gathering in the Clubhouse right after the Prayer Session in the Garden. At this writing, with all the uncertainty and if we are still under the "stay at home" order, I would like to encourage you to consider taking some time to say a prayer.

Lois Wegner 355-3970.

NEWCOMER BULLETIN – Tri-Par Flea Market

Yearly we have a huge flea market sale in the month of March. All the proceeds from this sale go to support the activities and clubs throughout our park so we all benefit from this effort. We made over $11,000 for 2020 from this effort and the sale of scrap.

We want to make sure that all newcomers to the park are aware of this effort as many times there are items in the homes they are occupying that they do not need or want or they are doing renovations where scrap metal is involved. We ask that you consider donating these items for our yearly sale. As you can see from the pictures, we sell a variety of items.

Our donation shed is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11 am from December to mid- March. Weekly scheduled pickups for furniture, scrap metal, or for those that can’t transport their donations to the shed are also tobe scheduled for these times. Please call Brad Surette at 617-548-3343 if pickups are needed.

For donations outside of the above timeframe please contact as below:

Brad Surette Dec – April 617-548-3343

Harold Bolyard May – Nov 717-433-7216

Please ensure that donations are in saleable form – no broken, torn, stained, or unclean items will be accepted for sale. We are also unable to accept sleeper sofas, large old TV stands, mattresses, toilets, large mirrors, old style TV’s, computers, printers and excessively heavy items. We accept all types of metal, mangled, bent or broken,

Sometimes “Thank You” just doesn’t seem enough to express our deep appreciation to Chako Isgro our Tuesday teacher and Dianna Marchner our Friday Leader. These two girls are awesome. They are so very special and give so much time and energy. You two are the very best.

Line Dance Update - the Tuesday class may continue when our facilities re-open. If you have any questions, please contact Kay Merritt at 941-359-2571.

Thank you for your support. If you have questions, please call:

WELCOME WAGON by Bobbi Miller

The Tri-Par Welcome Wagon would like to welcome all newcomers to Tri-Par Estates for the 2019-2020 season. Our goal is to make new friends and help new residents feel comfortable in their new home!

First-time owners and first-time renters will be called and offered a Welcome Wagon packet stuffed with handy information. We also offer a tour of Tri-Par Estates’ impressive facilities.

We are looking for residents who would like to participate and “adopt their street,” so to speak, as part of the Welcome Wagon team. You would be notified when there is a new resident on your block to drop off a welcome packet and your calling card so you can answer questions and offer a tour of Tri-Par. This would be a great opportunity for current residents to make new friends and meet your new neighbors.

If you are a new resident and have not been contacted by the Welcome Wagon or if would like to join the Welcome Wagon team, please call Bobbi Miller at 724-466-0698. Please ensure that the Tri-Par Estates office has your current telephone information so we can reach you.

Code Red Warning System Code Red is a free and secure system that delivers severe weather alerts moments after a warning is issued by the National Weather Service. Messages can be delivered by phone, email or text message. It also advises of the following emergencies:

• Drinking water contamination, • Extended utility outages, • Evacuation notice and route, • Missing persons, • Fires, floods, bomb threat, hostage situation,

chemical spill or gas leak, and other incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety.

• The opt-in weather warning service will automatically notify those registered of tornado, flash flood and severe thunderstorm voice alert warnings just minutes after an alert is issued by the National Weather Service.

• How to Register for Code Red Warning System: 1. Visit scgov.net and click the Code Red

registration link at the bottom of the page under Emergency Services

2. Enter your first and last name, physical address, city, state, zip code and primary phone numbers.

Recycling

We are all aware of the need to cut down on our trash and the impact it has on our environment. Some activities you can undertake to reduce the impact of the waste you produce:

• Waste Prevention: Avoid buying more than you need. Print only documents and emails that must be legally stored in paper form.

• Waste Reduction: Avoid products with excessive packaging. Buy loose vegetables instead off pre-packed goods.

• Reuse: Repurpose plastic bags. Find creative ways to transform used containers into home storage bins.

• Recycle: We are all recycling in our homes, but sometimes find we are attending or running meetings or social events where the building does not have recycling facilities. (Such as our Tri-Par Clubhouse) Club leaders can arrange to have cardboard items, pop cans and steel cans taken home so that these articles can be recycled.

Dogs and Cats Sarasota County Ordinance Chapter 14 contains the regulations concerning pets and other animals. These regulations contribute to the well-being of the pets in our community and, therefore, to the well-being of us all.

• Each year you must obtain a license certificate and tag for your dog or cat. In order to receive the license, your pet must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian. The official county license may be attached to a collar or harness and must be worn by the dog or cat at all times.

• Your dog or cat may not run at large on any public property or the property of another and must be under the direct control of a responsible person. Direct control always means immediate and continuous physical control of an animal (dog or cat) by means of a fence, leash, cord or chain of sufficient strength to restrain the animal.

• Under no circumstances shall a person improperly tether any animal. It is unlawful to tether an animal outdoors, except when all 10 conditions (listed in Sarasota County Code of Ordinances, Section 14-35) are met. The most important condition is, “The Animal is in visual range of the Owner, and the Owner is located outside with the Animal.”

• There have been instances when individuals are frightened by the behavior of our animals. If this

occurs to you or you observe anything listed above, please report the incident to Animal Services at 861-9500.

F.I.S.H.Transportation (Free Medical Transportation) Free medical transportation (via automobile) for Sarasota residents only. Donations are accepted. Rides available in the Sarasota area only. Transportation is for medical appointments only. MUST call to schedule 48 hours ahead and appointments must be between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Phone: 941-953-5838

Background Check for New Owners, Renters, or Caregivers and Guests Who Stay More Than 30 Days Background checks are required for all first-time buyers, renters or caregivers in Tri-Par Estates. A background check is also required for first-time guests staying more than 30 days. Renters, caregivers and guests who have left the Park for 12 months or more must reapply for a background check. A per person application form and per person $50.00 fee must be submitted to the Tri-Par Office a minimum of 30 days prior to the desired occupancy date for processing and the Board’s action. The new application form is available at the Office.

Board Approval Is Required Before Moving into Tri-Par If a renter, buyer, or caregiver moves in without the Board’s prior approval, the first action will be to start the process to assess a fine against the owner in accordance with Section 22 of our deed restrictions. Secondly, unapproved renters or owners will be required to vacate the property and leave the park. If they refuse and it becomes necessary for legal action to remove the unapproved occupant(s), the Board of Trustees shall be entitled to recover all costs, including, but not limited to, reasonable attorneys’ fees (Section 21 of Deed Restrictions) from the property owner.

Use of Tri-Par Common Facilities All visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult when using Tri-Par Facilities. No one under 18 is permitted in the Spa or in the Exercise Room. Most of us noticed more guests this year than ever before. It is important that we ensure that our guests are made aware of the rules of the Park.

Speed Limit in Tri-Par The speed limit throughout our Park is 20 MPH. We have many walkers, bikers and people on their golf carts every day. For the safety of all our residents, please do your part in observing the speed limit. When you have guests, let them know we would very much appreciate their maintaining the 20 MPH speed limit within the Park.
