What matters

I don’t know about you, but I love Easter for its simplicity – “Christ is Risen. He is Risen, Indeed. Alleluia.” It settles me on what is central. Nothing else much matters.

But everything matters! I mean, it matters!

● Global warming and whether we should bother having children anymore

● Obesity epidemic and organic foods and food deserts and access to health care

● Legalizing marijuana and the connection to mental illness, or not.

● Transgenderism and locker rooms

● Rising health care and college tuition and entitlements and national debt

● Globalism and immigration and populism

● Iran and China and Russia and North Korea

● Impeach or investigate or subpoena and Trump or Bernie and Fox or MSNBC.

● Christians slaughtered and ignored and rampant Islamophobia

This list could be a lot longer. The older people worry about different things than the younger people do. But all of us, no matter what box you fit in, have been conditioned to be anxious. Nothing is right and everything matters. And our anxiety gives way to anger which gives way to contempt. We end up with “Crucify!” Our age is anxious.

But then the aroma of Easter. The word buried comes alive: “Alleluia!” The one who mystified everyone, who claimed to be God, who was prophesied to be the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world,” rose from the dead. Say what?

Sit there on that. Settle in on that. That is what matters. The story of salvation culminating in the death and resurrection of the Messiah and the sending of his Spirit to create the church, is the ONE story that we should breathe in every day.

In an anxious age, we are given a peace that passes understanding. Stay in the story of Jesus.

5 GROW

Growing in Faith Greetings Church and School Families,

Each year, Trinity Academy Parent Group and the Les Berg Memorial fund join together to provide a $1,000 Scholarship to a high school senior student who formally graduated 8

th grade at Trinity

Academy. The School Advisory Board reads each submitted essay and the winners are chosen.

This year the winner is Anne´ Carper, a Hudson High School senior. Anne´ plans to attend the University of Mis-souri and major in economics and political science, with aspirations to be a lawyer. Anne´ shares excerpts from her essay in the following paragraphs.

“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future – Jeremiah 29:11 As a fifth grader I approached this verse as a security blanket; God has a plan for me that is good, so clearly this suffering I am going through will end soon and then my flourishing will begin.

“I learned later on, however, that that is not at all what God was promising the Israelites, and it’s not what He is promis-ing me either. Verse 10 illustrated the biggest impact of all: God says that He would fulfill this after 70 years are completed in Babylon, meaning that none in the current generation would ever return to their home.

“As I go through life on this crazy earth, I remember that the best growth comes through persevering through trials, not escaping them entirely. Now when in the midst of any hard-ships, I endure, I cling to Jeremiah 29:11 but for the right reason; not in false hope that God will take away my suffer-ing, but in true confidence that He will give me hope in the midst of it.

“During my 3rd

and 4th grade years, I attended public

school, which gave me an inside look into the public educa-tion program compared to that of Trinity’s. While there is nothing wrong with utilizing the public school system, Trini-ty’s education and teaching methods were by far superior and more relevant to today’s world, which I feel has signifi-cantly impacted my intellectual growth.

“Many people expect students who attend a private, Chris-tian school to be enclosed in a Christian bubble, but unlike public school where religious beliefs are hushed, Trinity gave me the freedom to question and think about my be-liefs and the world in a safe, accepting environment.

“As a young student I believe that being able to express my opinions and being able to praise God while in school gave me an advantage. A lesson I learned while at Trinity, how-

ever, is that success or failure in any situation depends on how we respond to what we are facing. It is our character, therefore, that de-termines our suc-cess and attending Trinity ultimately fortified my charac-ter for the better.

“Ultimately, I was given the ability to think for myself, grow my faith with my mentors guiding me along the way and experience unique opportuni-ties, which impact-ed both my spiritual and intellectual growth while at Trinity and the years following. I feel more prepared than I could have ever hoped for and to say Trinity Acad-emy is a significant reason why would be an understate-ment. I am so grate-ful to Trinity for providing me with a solid foundation in my faith, in my school work, and in my life.“ - Anne´ Carper

On behalf of Trinity Academy, Mrs. Johnson and the staff wish all of the high school seniors congratulations and may God Bless you as you move on to the next journey that God has in store for you.

Trinity Graduates 13 on June 3 On Monday, June 3, at 5:30pm, Trini-ty Academy will graduate its 13 8th graders. Members of the congregation are invited to attend the ceremony, which is held in the sanctuary at the West Campus.

“Congratulations to our 8th grade

graduates, and we wish you well as you head off to Concordia Academy, New Life and Hudson High School,” says Trinity Academy Principal Alison Johnson.

“Specifically we congratulate Nicholas Austin, Eric Becerra, Rayah Finstad, Elizabeth Grove, Sam Gruenes, Katie Harris, Ruth Kosterman, Lauren McLean, Ethan Petersen, Ben Raymond, Elliot Vargas, Charlie Wendell and Dehlia Woltman.

“It has been a privilege to teach you and see you develop into the fine young people you are today. Best wishes and God’s blessings as you move into high school.”
