DIRECTORS’ CORNER
L’équipe GWRRA travaille activement à une résolution visant à modifier le livre d’or GWRRA S'il vous plaît soyez patient
et nous informerons tous les membres quand cela aura été résolu.
TEAM GWRRA are working vigorously on a resolution to amend the GWRRA Gold Book. Please be patient and we will
advise all members when it has been resolved.
Merci pour votre patience et votre compréhension.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I hope everyone has taken their bike out from winter storage with no major issues. Yes, it’s time to RIDE. For
most of the members in CCD, the riding season is just beginning.
We must acknowledge Chapter ON-G for riding and participating in the GWRRA Louisiana District Rally. Way to
represent CCD, Darlene Drouin, with your TEAM.
Rendezvous 2019 is approaching fast. I hope all the participating CCD Chapters are ready for an exciting action-
packed time. The NOTL residence is officially fully booked for Thurs. 18th and Fri 19th July. (That’s fabulous news).
The District is so fortunate to have Clara Boldt attending this year’s Rally and presenting “Lead Like You Ride” for
the first time in Canada. If you can attend this on Thursday July 18, 2019, you will not be disappointed.
All the information for Rendezvous 2019 can be downloaded from our website:
www.ccdistrict.ca
Social media: CCD Facebook now has 178 members and is going strong. You will notice the site has been
changed to a closed group.
Wing Ding 41: Nashville, Tennessee! Are you attending? If you are attending and would
like to volunteer some of your time, approximately three to four hours, to assist with a booth, let
Kris or me know. We are attending, as in previous years, to assist with the GWRRA TEAM in
manning a booth. With large events like Wing Ding, it really helps when you have lots of volunteers
to ensure the event runs smoothly. Last year members of Chapter ON-Y with Chapter ON-H
worked the pre-registration booth. This is a great way to meet fellow GWRRA members from all other
Districts and Chapters. After working a booth, you can then check-out all the vendors on site. Hope to see you there!

WINGING THRU THE DISTRICT
I guess it’s official - riding season has arrived, and we are all excited to get this
season underway making new friends and memories. It has been great seeing all the
pictures and reading the stories that members and chapters are posting on their
Facebook pages. It’s wonderful seeing our members experiencing new areas and chapters,
in other words – “Living the GWRRA life”.
One of the things we do best is visiting other chapters, getting to know the members, and making ne
friendships, and I thought this would be a good time to introduce you to a chapter you may not be familiar
with. But who am I kidding….everyone knows this group.
North Bay Chapter ON-N is one of our busiest and most welcoming group of people you will ever encounter.
This enthusiastic group, led by Mike Parent and Sue Martin, never fail to participate with other groups
whenever possible, and bring fun and laughter wherever they go. They meet for a breakfast meeting and ride
on the third Sunday of each month, as well as enjoy coffee nights each Wednesday evening. They are
participating and helping with the Ride for Dad mid-June, then heading to Magnetawan to meet with
members from Chapter G, before leaving for Pembroke to meet with Chapters F & B. A large group will be at
Rendezvous for a great party in Niagara-On-The-Lake before they head east for the “Sou’ Wester Rally”. All
this will be combined with many day rides throughout the summer before heading to “The Sault” for the
Knights of the Hatchet camp out, and then in their spare time (LOL) they plan and host the very popular Fall
Color Run in North Bay. This Color Run is a great time that is considered a “must do” due to the beautiful
country side and hospitality of these hard working, fun loving members.
Please keep those stories and pictures coming, whether you are travelling, training, BBQ’ing, or just having a
coffee. It’s always great to see our members enjoying good times together.

RIDER EDUCATION
How Are You Starting This Riding Season?
Winter is finally gone, so let the riding season begin! Maybe you have recently taken a CPR/First Aid class or a seminar or two during this past off-season. This means you are better prepared to help in case one of your riding buddies has an accident or a health issue, or you are prepared to be a better co-rider. Now you are available to spend more time riding now that the season is here. Hopefully you have also taken time to make sure your motorcycle is ready to go. You may have done a T-CLOCS, or changed the oil, replaced worn tires, kept your battery charged, or discovered that you needed a new one and replaced it. There are other things that you can do to be at your best out on the road, as well. Many of us will be out on the road before we can offer a Rider Course. On that note, there will be one Monday May 20 in Plantagenet/Rockland (contact Michel Lavoie), and July 5th and 6th in Milton (Contact Mark Fleury). So what else can you do to get in the right frame of mind and tune up your skills right away? There are a few things you can do as an individual or in a group (such as with your fellow chapter members) to be prepared to ride safely and with skill before the season is even two weeks old. First, you can practice your skills in an empty, quiet parking lot with smooth pavement that is free of loose gravel or sand. Find an empty church or a school parking lot, or some unused out-of-the-way space at a shopping center safely away from moving vehicles. Choose a time when it is unlikely to be busy (e.g., a school lot on Sunday), as your safety is of the utmost importance. Work on braking, turning, curves, stopping while in a curve (remember to straighten the handlebars before braking and stopping!), and turning when pulling away from a stop. When you practice alone, always remain vigilant to vehicles encroaching on your space. Second, how about participating in some of the “Shiny Side Up” exercises? There are 15 exercises to choose from; you can opt to do any number. This is an activity that can easily be held at the chapter level. The exercises in “Shiny Side Up” are all spelled out on the GWRRA Rider Education webpage, along with tips to execute the skills correctly. Talk to your Chapter Director or Ride Coordinator about holding a “Shiny Side Up” for your chapter. Third, you can attend a Team Riding Seminar. This Rider Ed seminar is particularly good to hold at your chapter because the folks who are normally part of your riding team can all hear the same Team Riding tips. Why would you sit through a Team Riding Seminar? One reason is because most of us ride to various places around the District visiting other Chapters with our riding friends. And if you know what to expect from the others in your group - your team - you will be more likely to trust them. You will trust them because you'll know they are all going to ride safely and predictably in a staggered formation. That is what the Team Riding Seminar provides you. Getting back to the bike for a minute, if you have new tires on your bike for the new season, know that the tire manufacturers recommend that you take it easy on those tires for the first 100 to 150 Kilometres. That means go easy in the curves and easy on acceleration to prevent slide-outs. The reason is because the surface of the tire will be slickest (slippery) when new. There are a couple of common explanations why, but the result is the same - reduced traction. The rubber will get scuffed and roughed up enough over that distance during normal riding, and the tire's grip will improve. Be particularly careful with new tires on painted stripes and metal plates, and all surfaces that are slick even when your tires aren’t. Remember that practice in a parking lot, by yourself or with others, is good for all of us after the long
off-season. It is even more beneficial and important if you recently bought a new or used motorcycle. Get to
know that new-to-you bike and how it handles in a safe environment. After brushing up your skills, you'll be
ready to go out and enjoy a safe riding season!
Ride Safe Always!
