President’s Report

I hope all members and green fee players are enjoying the changes to our golf course.

The management and committee are working hard to-gether to introduce new events and promote the Mildura Golf Resort and ensure it’s ongoing viability for the future.

The Match Committee are working together and inves-tigating what golfing novelty events might be of interest to all golfers, and as soon they have completed this work and made their decisions you will hear more.

It is now 3 months since the re-introduction of our Newsletter and we will be interested in your feedback on the content plus any other items of interest you would like to be included.

Captain’s Report

I hope all members are enjoying the golf holes.

Congratulations to the winners of the Mildura Open for 2016 Jake Laubsch and Jenny Stephens. The golf course was in great condition thanks to Lucas and his greens staff. Thanks also to our major sponsor Halls Jayco of Mildura.

Green’s Report

Weather permitting the new 8th green should be ready for re-opening around mid-June. The plan is to use all holes from 1 to 17 and eliminate the 18th hole.

Construction of the new 9th green is planned to commence in the Spring season of 2016.

The request from lady members to bring the edges of the fairways closer to the ladies tees on holes 4,8,13 and 14 will be completed as soon as possi-ble.

Work is continuing to rectify the ongoing problems with the irrigation system and hopefully this will reduce the number of future breakdowns. However as we all know problems will occur from time to time as this is the nature of all watering systems.

Lady Golfers Report

Our Golden Putter day was very successful and we thank the Mildura Commit-tee of Management for their support. The winners were Fran Sette (Coomie) and Megan Sullivan (Mildura) with 71 points, second were Elaine Henshall and Helen Smith (Mildura) with 67 points, and, third were Pam Turner and Jill For-ster (Coomie) with 65 points.

Captain’s versus President’s saw a win to the Captain’s team 5/4.

Ladies are reminded that there is a shotgun start at 8am on Tuesday 17th May as the course will closed from 12.30pm for the Tri State Masters.

Up Coming events:

Thursday 19th May: Robinvale Women’s Open

Putting tips from club professional Brendan Rowse

Reading the Green

Reading the green is an animal all to itself, so try and remember: The break and the speed are the two factors you need to "read" when you read the green. Taking a few putts on the practice green before beginning play can give you an advantage to reading the speed of the greens on a particular day at a particular course. It's better to make adjustments on the practice green than on the first hole. When reading a green, get behind the ball and squat. You can see the contours of the green this way. Look at the putt from the side (the low-side preferably). An alternate view can help you better gauge distance. Watch your partners chips and putts. How does the ball act on the green? When you putt, whether the result is good or bad, pay attention and mentally rec-ord what took place. You will process this later as you think back over your day's play.

Keep the eye over the ball

When you putt two things are vital: Your eye must be directly over the ball, and you must stroke the ball to make it rotate end-over-end. The ball can only "see" the line when your eyes are di-rectly over it. If they are not, your eyes will see one line while the ball "sees" an-other. When your eyes are over the ball, you have a much better chance of stroking it accurately and imparting end-over-end rotation. End-over-end rotation means that the ball is contacted so squarely that it rolls "over itself," on the same vertical axis, there being no side-spin as there inevitably will be when the ball is cut or pulled or miss putted in some

Putt with your eyes closed

Can you play golf with your eyes closed? You'd be surprised. By practicing putts with your eyes shut, it's easier to feel body movements. You should sense your shoulders working like a pendu-lum. Next thing, you'll hear the ball hitting the bottom of the cup!

Keep Your Head Still

A still head is crucial to solid contact and consistent putting. Focus on keeping your head still well after impact. Head movement causes the shoulders to open and your putter to cut across the ball. Also, try putting with your eyes closed. You'll be amazed at the results!

Joke of the Month

To The Golfer

In my hand I hold a ball,

White and dimpled, rather small Oh, how bland it does appear,

This harmless looking little sphere.

By its size I could not guess

The awesome strength it does possess; But since I fell beneath its spell

I've wandered through the fires of Hell.

My life has not been quite the same Since I chose to play this game.

It rules my mind for hours on end.

A fortune it has made me spend.

It has made me curse and cry. I hate myself and want to die.

It promises a thing called "par".

If I can hit it straight and far.

To master such a tiny ball

Should not be very hard at all. But my desires the ball refuses

And does exactly as it choses.

It hooks and slices..dribbles..dies Or disappears before my eyes Often it will have a whim

To hit a tree or take a swim.

With miles of grass on which to land It finds a tiny patch of sand.

Then has me offering up my soul

If it will just drop in the hole

It's made me whimper like a pup,

And swear that I will give it up And take a drink to ease my sorrow.

But "The Ball" knows... I'll be back...tomorrow.
