INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

DON’T BE LEFT IN THE DARK, NOTIFICATIONS AHEAD

As we near the hot summer months, Cobb EMC has prepared several ways to notify you when we are experiencing peak conservation hours, which will affect your peaking service charge and your rate for up to the next 12 months.

Peak conservation hours are determined by the times of day when energy is in highest demand. This usually occurs on weekdays in a five-hour window from June through September between 2-7 p.m. On specified days when peak usage heightens—peak notification days—we’ll ask you to conserve energy to lower your peaking service charge.

Your peaking service charge is determined by the highest energy need that you demand during Cobb EMC’s peak conservation hours. That’s why it’s important to conserve energy during the peak conservation hours.

Take a look at three scenarios* using the same amount of electricity—1000 kWh:

Stay informed about peak notification days and receive alerts about peak conservation hours.

Putting safety first this month—and throughout the year

It’s May, and Cobb EMC is celebrating National Electrical Safety Month. There are many measures you can take to ensure the safety of your loved ones. Use these helpful tips to safeguard your home.

Meet the Home Energy Efficiency Makeover winners

For the first time, Cobb EMC partnered with the Cobb Heating and Air Association and Gas South to give one deserving member a Home Energy Efficiency Makeover.

The makeover selection committee considered more than 40 nominations and chose Wes and Shannon Pilgrim, of Marietta, as the winners. Wes Pilgrim, a U.S. Marine veteran, and his wife will receive energy-efficient appliances, a bill credit from Cobb EMC, two years of free natural gas service from Gas South, and a new HVAC unit, water heater, insulation and duct work courtesy of participating Cobb Heating and Air Association members.

Visit www.cobbemc.com/makeover to see their story.

IN THE KITCHEN All appliance cords should be

placed away from hot surfaces. Pay particular attention to

cords around toasters, ovens and ranges. Cords can be damaged by excess heat.

LIGHT THE WAY TO SAFETY

The wattage of the bulbs you use in your home should match

the wattage indicated on the light fixture. Overheated fixtures

can lead to a fire.

BE PREPARED Test smoke alarms every

month. Batteries should be replaced at least once a

year or sooner if indicated in the manufacturers’

instructions. All smoke alarms should be replaced

at least every 10 years.
