Swedish National Day Celebrations
Come celebrate the Swedish National Day on Saturday June 6th at the Scandinavian Centre! We will offer: Pea soup Eggs w. Swedish caviar (Kalle’s!) Green salad Cucumber salad Bread and butter Hot dogs (kids and Swedish

A Very (Swedish) Scandinavian
Evening with Carl & Karin Larsson
Friday May 29th, the Scandinavian
Cultural Society together with the Swedish Cultural Society and Sweden House Society, will hold a cultural evening.
Guests will enjoy an illustrated presentation of “Swedish Style” with special reference to the contributions of Karin Larsson.
Carl Larsson’s illustrations for his book Ett Hem (A Home) more than a century ago defined a “Swedish Style” that was light, colourful, informal. It seems obvious now that his wife Karin was intimately involved in creating the rooms Carl used as a stage for their family’s dramas.
Food and drink available to purchase. The bar will be open. “Danish Style”. Smørrebrød godt belagt med meget pynt (Danish sandwiches well stacked and decorated) $5 per sandwich.
Happy Hour at 6:30 pm, Sandwiches at 7:00, talk at 8:00 pm

tre’s Flea Market and Plant Sale
Norman Eyford from the Iceland House has provided the following re-port re: the Flea market and Plant sale that took place on Saturday, May 3
rd.
“Hi everyone,
It is my understanding that the Fleamarket and Plant Sale generated some needed cash flow to the Centre.
The event also helped build communi-ty. It was the first time that I had met Gun Pennink who has been associat-ed with Centre activities for many years. She is to be congratulated for organizing the Fleamarket!
Carolyn Thauberger is also to be con-gratulated for her leadership with the Plant Sale.
Thank you to all the volunteers with a special mention to those helped with the coffee and the food.”
Walpurgis Celebration
About 50 members attended the Wal-purgis celebration on Sunday April 26th at Ambleside Beach in West Van-couver.
Thank you to Stephen Lindahl who arranged for the bonfire-permit and thank you to Monica Severinsson who played the guitar when we sang the Spring songs!The weather was coop-erating – we had time to socialize, eat the hot dogs and sing before a few raindrops fell.
European Festival 2015 on May 30th & 31st European Festival is held at the Swangard Stadium, Kingsway & Boundary Road in Burnaby
Gates open 11 am both Saturday and Sunday.
Cultural displays, Arts Plaza, Food, Beergarden, Marketplace, 2 stages with continuous traditional & contem-porary entertainment. Lots of free kids’ activities. Saturday evening: 7 pm Joycelan Pettit Celtic band; 8 pm Delhi2 Dublin Band Sunday evening: 7 pm Derrival band Would you be able to volunteer? Volunteers needed for Midsummer
Festival June 21-22

There is a volunteer orientation meet-ing on June 3rd (Wednesday) at 7pm in the Scandinavian Centre. This is a good time to meet other volunteers and to get an update on the current list of volunteer and the categories where volunteers are still needed.
As of this date we still need approxi-mately 60 more volunteers.
Carina Spencer is responsible for the Swedish tent. This year’s theme is “Captial cities”, which means that the Swedish tent will be decorated with a focus on Stockholm. Carina would really like some help with preparing and manning the Swedish tent, so if you want to participate in organizing and assisting with this task, please contact Carina by email [email protected].

Teachers Wanted!
Swedish School is looking for five new teachers starting in Fall 2015
The Swedish school is looking for teachers who long-term want to work for the school.
Relevant education is a desired pre-requisite, but most important factors are strong enthusiasm, interest in working with children and Multilingual-ism, and ability to teach. Fluency in Swedish is required.

Movie Night 10th of May
About 20 members came to the movie night which showed the movie “Men Who Swim”. The movie was entertain-ing. This DVD is available to borrow from the Swedish library located in the Swedish Room at the Scandinavian Centre.
Sweden House Society Donates
$20K towards SCRHA Renovations
Sweden House Society is donating $20,000 to the Swedish Canadian Resthome Association ‘s Renovation of the low-income residencies in much need of both repairs and renovations. The donation will partially cover the total cost of the renovations..
Swedish Canadian Rest Home Assoi-ciation also manages the Swedish Canadian Assisted Living.
All three properties are located in Burnaby.
Sweden House Society holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month @ 7 p.m. in the Swedish Room at the Scandinavian Community Cen-tre. All members (SCS members are members of SHS) are welcome to attend.
