There is no mystery to the ingredients – flour, salt, sweetener, liquid, yeast – then, poof – bread! Of course, there are different kinds of flour (rye, wheat, oat, barley), different sweeteners (brown sugar, molasses, honey), dif-ferent options for different needs (nuts, herbs, fruit), and liquid (water, milk, oil). It is all, however, still bread.

Churches are breads. We are one form or another of attempts to collect our searching and awe into joyful praise. Of course, there are many kinds of churches – big and small, traditional and contemporary, urban and rural, new and old, denominational and not. But they are all, however, still church. We can bring our hurriedness, but yeast will not be hurried. Bread takes time. We can bring to church our anxiety and dread, but church takes time as well. Did you supply the flour, salt, sweetener, liquid, and yeast? Then, bread will rise. Did you supply the praise, humility, love, worship, and devotion? Then, church will also rise. Both, how-ever, require patience.

There is not great mystery to the ingredients for church, but church requires a steadfast trust that, even when not visible to the eye, God is at work. There must always be the sense of the church as coming-to-be, as growing in spirit and truth, a ripening that is gracious and graceful - embodying the One who is Bread of the world. – Mark

Be sure to make a note

An Easter egg hunt was held after Church on Easter Sunday.

Happy kids! SPRC Committee wishes to thank the Nurture and Care Committee for their generous help in making

the Staff Appreciation Luncheon last month very special. The table settings and decorations were lovely and your efforts are appreciated. Thank you to all who brought food and joined the celebration. It was fun and we hope to make it an annual affair.

And to the Staff at Lakeside United Methodist Church, we love you and thank you for all you do.

YOU’RE IN CHARGEIn answer to a question asked not long ago – no one person is “in charge” of the church kitchen. Instead, we all are. Various church committee members do their best to keep the kitchens stocked. They spend their time and often their own money making sure there are paper plates, cups, napkins and coffee, tea, lemonade mix, sugar, and coffeemate and kitchen cleaning supplies available for church functions. You can do your share toward keeping kitch-ens stocked for the next user by: FIRST telling Randy, Kay Alexander, or Curtis Cromwell if you use the last or almost the last of an item from kitchen stock and are not going to replace it yourself; SECOND, by providing your own supplies for private functions held at the church. Don’t forget, we’re all in charge of keeping up the church kitchen.
