Ordinary Days By ChangHoon Kim

Chang Hoon Kim’s Ordinary Days, the newest BRAGWall exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries is open for public viewing.

Chang Hoon, originally from South Korea, has wanted his own photography exhibition since he took up the hobby. His goal is to share his story, to show there’s no difference between his daily life and anyone else’s. The photographs, all framed in 4x6 black frames, aim to tell viewers a story of the beautiful things in every day life.

“We have a lot of precious and beautiful things in our life,” said Chang Hoon, “I want to let you know how beautiful they are.”

“It’s an important part of an emerging artist’s journey to exhibit their work,” said Julie Blair, Audience Development Officer at the Galleries. “The BRAGWall is a perfect place to start.”

Chang Hoon Kim and the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries invite the community to view these works in the community exhibition space, located in the lower hallway. The exhibition will be open

for public viewing until 26 May.

The Bunbury Regional Art Galleries is pleased to invite artists living in the South West region to submit expressions of interest for the South West Showcase 2013 exhibition opportunity. Each year the Galleries offer one artist or small group of artists an exclusive exhibition opportunity, and all regional artists are encouraged to apply.

The South West Showcase is an annual exhibition that demonstrates the high value of works that originate from the South West, as well as those that offer something new and exciting to our regional audience. The annual South West Showcase, now leading up to its fourth year, came to fruition in 2008 from the feedback of local practitioners appealing for a range of exhibition opportunities including supported solo exhibitions.

“It is important that we offer artists the opportunities that they need to grow their arts practise as well as give the community viewers insight into the high quality of work that is coming out of their own region,” said Julie Blair, Audience Development Officer at the Galleries.

This is an excellent opportunity for mid-career artists seeking to advance their practice to a new level, and for senior artists wishing to exhibit in their home region. All media will be considered while innovation and experimental practice will be highly valued.

Artists keen to be considered for the South West Showcase 2013 will need to submit an expression proposal form which can be downloaded from www.brag.org.au or collected from the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries at 64 Wittenoom Street. All proposals must be received by the Galleries no later than 19 July, 2012.

Noongar Country Exhibition 2012 - Entries Now OPEN Over the past years the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries Noongar Country exhibitions have been based on different themes like Noongar Waangkininy (Noongar Talking), Kaal Waangkininy (Fire Talking), Ngalang Boordiya (Our Bosses), The Noongar Six Seasons, The 1964 Referendum and the Roelands Mission. This year we would like to give artists the opportunity to fully express themselves by having an open theme.

This is an opportunity to encourage artists and community members/groups to explore different art mediums to showcase their cultural expression through creative arts.

Taipei + Perth Artist Exchange Program

The City of Perth, in partnership with Taipei Artist Village and Central Institute of Technology, provides an opportunity for a Western Australian practising professional artist to travel to Perth's Sister City in Taiwan to participate in the Taipei + Perth Artist Exchange Program.

The exchange program between the cities of Perth and Taipei was developed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and understand between the two cities and to foster the creative development of artists in those cities. The resident artist will be expected to make a contribution to the cultural life of the host community.

The exchange offers a reciprocal residency of two months for an artist from Perth to travel to Taipei and an artist from Taipei to travel to Perth on consecutive years. The Perth artist is accommodated at the Taipei Artist Village and the Taiwanese artist resides at the Central Institute of Technology.

In 2010 Taipei Artist Village selected Perth artist, Aimee Smith, who took up her residency in April 2011. In 2012 the City of Perth and Central Institute of Technology will select the recipient the exchange who will travel to Perth in 2013.

In this one day intensive Painting Technologies (for oil paint) workshop, students will learn about the manufacturing of traditional grounds, mediums, glazes, and varnishes, all which will help them to get more out of their own painting. The students will not only walk away from the workshop with a good working knowledge materials, but also a selection of artist quality mediums, varnishes, and grounds, which they made to their own specifications from scratch.
