STUDENTS CELEBRATE EARTH DAY CLEANING UP RIVER PARK By Mrs. Lawrence
Every year, we go down to the River Park to do our part for Earth Day by picking up trash. This year we didn’t have as much trash as we have in previous years. We were so happy to see that the community is
taking such good care of the River Park. It was great to hear the students talk about how they make sure they always put their trash in the trashcans and also pick up any trash that they see lying around. We also talked about how important it was to take care of our Earth and ways we could help out. It was a great day with a great bunch of Earth caring students.

Household Hazardous Waste Day By Mr. Maass
The Argonia High School Environmental Science Class wants to thank the City of Argonia for approving the household hazardous waste collection April 9th 2011. We had a very successful turn out during our 3 hour collection time. Thirty-six vehicles (all Argonia residents) dropped off waste. We filled two 1 yard dumpsters overflowing with emptied containers. We had several Argonia residents who thanked us for organizing the HHW (household hazardous waste). Here is a list of what we collected:
Volunteers that made this a success: Morgan Adams, Nathan Holden, David Lowe, Daniel Naillieux, Abbi Sevier, Travis Riebel and Wayne Maass. Our Environmental Science Class hopes to do another community project during the next school year. Our next project might be an E- waste (Electronic Waste) Collection.

Argonia Elementary Students Celebrate Earth Day By Dr. Dolley Argonia Elementary students participated in several Earth Day activities at Holden Park on Thursday, April 21. In spite of cool, drizzly weather a great time was had by everyone. Students had the opportunity to view tiny
wildlife in the “Up Close Ant Walk” activity. They used magnifying glasses to see what tiny wildlife they could find. They found ants, spi-ders, walking sticks, bees, and many other tiny bugs. In the “Nature’s Ruler” station students used a ruler to measure wildlife such as sticks, leaves, bugs, and other exciting items they discovered. In the “Nature Scavenger Hunt” station students worked with a partner to find items on their list such as moss,
leaves, something fluffy, something green, something brown, etc. They could also list other interesting items they found while “hunting”. Students planted flower seeds and made a special “Holden Park” commemorative necklace at the “Arts and Crafts” station. We would like to thank Bill, Maxine, and Vickie Holden for
sharing their park with us and for helping us with our ac-
tivities. It was a perfect place to celebrate Earth Day!

BOWL FOR KIDS’ SAKE!!! By Mr. Mead
On Thursday April 21st the Argonia Elementary PE students finished up their fundraising for the BBBS Bowl For Kids’ Sake program by spending their morning PE time bowling on the Wii. The students had learned earlier in the year how to keep score and use proper technique when bowling. The students did very well and enjoyed their time working with the Wii and competing against students from every grade level. The students who had at least one game over 200 were presented a certificate showing their achievement. 200 Club: Kamden Basinger, Trevor Pierce, David Garcia, Isaiah Lacey, Josh Sandoval, Jed Phillips Top Score: Josh Sandoval 224 The elementary students raised $560 for the Sumner County Big Brothers Big Sisters organization which serves all school districts in Sumner County. The top fundraiser was Riley Fisher, who raised $250. The runner-up was Kaden Dickerson, who raised $135. The second grade class will be awarded an ice cream party and a free recess. Riley and Kaden also earned a BBBS water bottle and a Bowl for Kids’ Sake t-shirt. Masen McDaniel was the pledge earner with the highest score of 166. Both
Masen and Riley will be awarded trophies for their accomplishments. We would like to thank everyone who donated pledges in support of BBBS! A big THANK YOU goes
out to all of the people
who loaned their Wii
systems for the day and
made this event possi-
ble. We couldn’t have
done it without you!

and vocal solo), Lindsay Drouhard (Argonaires
and vocal solo), Cori Drouhard (Argonaires),

and Olivia Brantley (Argonaires and vocal solo).

Argonia Red Raider Track Team Doing Well By Mr. Mead
The 2011 Argonia Raider Track team is off and running, and is quickly approaching the
critical point in the year with the upcoming meets. The year has been a success with everyone who has competed placing in at least one track meet so far. On the girls side Morgan Adams and Rachel Simon are both approaching the school record in the high jump, both having cleared 4’ 8” at some point and being ever so close to the record 0f 4’ 10”. Shelby McCoy is starting to become a consistent place winner in both the 100m and 200m dashes, and is looking like she will be a strong contender at the regional meet coming up in a couple of weeks. Devon Allen is reaching the form she had at the end of last year in the Javelin having placed in the top 3 in all but one of the meets thus far this year. On the boys side Lance Conklin and Kolton Dickerson have been consistently placing in the triple jump with Lance jumping personal best jumps in the last two meets. These two are getting closer and closer to distances in the triple jumps that would be very close to state qualifying marks. They keep improving each week which is a good sign for the upcoming end of the year meets. Lance has also taken his long jump distance to within 3/4 of an inch of the 19 foot mark. Although the Weight Man’s relay team doesn’t count towards any team point totals during the season, the Argonia boys have taken pride in the relay and have worked hard to stay undefeated in the relay all season having never lost a race. Eve-ryone has run on the relay at some point this year and have all worked together to keep the re-lay team perfect.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE RAIDER TRACK MEMBERS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! Upcoming Meets: May 6th Pretty Prairie; May13th League @West Elk; May 20th Regionals @
