Message From Head of The Department In line with its name, this issue reflects the performance of our students in academ- ics, as well as, co-curricular and extra-curricular activites. It also gives a summary of the various developmental activities done by the department. In the quest of knowledge and with a mission to empower the students in their be- coming excellent human resources, our staff continuously tries to upgrade them- selves, which is also reflected in this newsletter. We, at the Department of Computer Engineering believe that, the sky is the limit and hence, so there is always scope for improvement. Suggestions for improving Reflection is welcome by one and all. Annual National Level Socio-Technical Symposium at JSPM’s Rajashri Shahu COE-Pune on 17th -18th March2011 under the

guidance of Prof. N.F.Shaikh.

2.. Ms. Monica Gokule and Saroj Jadhav of final year presented a paper titled “Prediction using Neual Network” at Annual

National Level Socio-Technical Symposium at Cummins COE-Pune on second week of March2011 under the guidance of

6. Asloob Qureshi , Piyush Gupta,& Rahul Wane won 3rd prize at state level technical symposium ,“REBEL 11” organized by

SVPMCOE Malegaon on 24th & 25th March 2011 under the guidance of Mrs R.A Khan for

the project titled ELFiesta . 7. Asloob Qureshi , Piyush Gupta,& Rahul Wane won 1st prize at SAGA 2011 at MESCOE for

the Project Titled ELFiesta under the guidance of Mrs R.A Khan.

1. One Day Workshop On ‘QTP’ was arranged for the final year students of Computer Engineer-

ing and for all departmental staff members on 19th March 2011.

2. An industrial visit to Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) was arranged for the S.E.

students in the second week of March. The visit gave the students informative insight about the

use of multimedia and computer graphics in the film and television industry.

3. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of T. E. Computer on the topic of “.Net Tech-

nology’ in the first week of March The speaker for the session was Mrs. Ananya Chavan from

Kerox Technologies. She gave information about how .Net is replacing the recent technologies.

The students also gained ideas for the final year project from this session.

4. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of S. E. Computer on 10th March 2011. The

topic for the lecture was Web Applications which was delivered by Mr. Digvijay Pandy from

ADP– Automatic Data Processing. Mr. Digvijay is an alumni of MESCOE’s, Department of

Computer Engineering Pune.

5. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of T. E. Computer on 19th March 2011. The

topic for the lecture was Database Applications and SQL which was delivered by Mr. Piyush

Agarwal from HSBC. Mr. Piyush is an alumni of MESCOE’s, Department of Computer Engi-

neering Pune.

6. Celebration of Women’s Day on 8th March 2011.

On the occasion of women's day, a special guest lecture was arranged for all the ladies staff mem-

bers. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Smita Bora on the topic “Ayurveda and Yoga”.

7. A four days workshop was organized by IBM at MESCOE on OOAD UML using IBM Ra-

tional Rose from 26th to 29th April 2011. This session provided indepth knowledge and hands on

experience to the staff members on the usage of Rational Suite and RSA. The sessions were con-

ducted by Mr. From IBM.

8.The students of MESCOE organized an annual inter-collegiate technical event SAGA '11 from

25th –27th March 2011. The festival saw an equal mix of around twenty technical and non-

technical competitions. In addition, to create social awareness, an interactive session was held

with the editor of DNA ACADEMY and the article was published in the newsletter. The event

saw a participation of around 3000 students from all the different colleges in Pune. The expendi-

ture incurred during the event was around Rs 2,50,000.

workshop on “IPRF– International Partnership and Research

Forum Membership” given by Dr. T.M.Sathyanrayanan and

Mr. Sinha from industry in MESCOE ,Pune on 25th April

2011. He gave information about Possitive Attitude.

9.All staff menmbers of Computer Department attended 4

days workshop on OOAD UML using IBM Rational Rose

organized by IBM at MESCOE ,Pune from 26th to 29th April

2011.

10. Prof S.P.Deore has published paper titled “Moment

Based Online and Offline Handwritten Character Recog-

nition” in CIIT International Journal of Biometrics and Bioin-

formatics in March 2011.

1.Prof Ahmad R Khan has been admitted to Junjunu,

Rajasthan for pursuing Ph. D. in Computer Sc. & Engg. in

the area of Project Management.

2. Prof N.F.Shaikh ,Prof S.P.Deore attended one day

workshop on SE/TE Syllabus implementation at PICT—

Pune on 15th Feb 2011.

3. Prof N.F.Shaikh attended two days workshop on Re-

search areas in Biometrics organized by MMMCOE,

Karvenagar on 23rd and 24th Feb. 2011.

4.Prof N.F.Shaikh, Prof. R.A.Khan, Prof. S. K. Wagh

and Prof. J. R. Pansare attended a one day workshop on

Syllabus revision of BE at PICT on 6th April 2011.

5.Prof R A Khan and Prof S.S.Badala attended work-

shop on “Mission 10 X” on 6th March 2011 .

6. All staff menmbers of Computer Department attended

a guest lecture on ”Research Methodlogy“ given by Dr.

T.M.Sathyanrayanan at MESCE ,Pune in second week of

Feb 2011. He gave information about different research

methoblogy.

7. All staff menmbers of Computer Department attended

one day workshop on “Quick Test Professional (QTP)” at

MESCOE ,Pune on 19th March 2011.

Modern Education Society’s College of Engineering, Pune was

established in 1999 and conducts the following courses leading to

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

1. Computer Engineering.

2. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.

3. Mechanical Engineering.

All these courses are approved by All India Council for Tech-

nical Education, (AICTE) New Delhi, sanctioned by Govt. of

Maharashtra and affiliated to University of Pune. The Modern

Education Society, Pune was established in 1932.
