***AIRCRAFT FUMES*** – Understanding Recent Events and Writeups

Over the past few months there have been a significant number of aircraft fumes events involving JetBlue crews on the Airbus. Every day more

information is coming in and we will continue to update our membership as we learn the facts. We are working with the ALPA National Air Safety Organization and Engineering and Air Safety, JetBlue Safety, and our

industry peers to further understand the root causes of these events, and eventually develop procedures to manage and minimize exposure from a fumes events. Here's what we do know: we have a JetBlue pilot who is

currently out on OJI following a fumes event. We have had multiple aircraft experience the 'dirty sock' smell associated with one of these events. We understand the frustration regarding the lack of

information and guidance on this matter, but we are not the certificate holder, aircraft manufacturer or Administrator and we cannot institute procedural changes to our SOP. If you believe you are experiencing a fumes event we recommend that you follow established QRC/QRH procedures and utilize your associated memory items, don your oxygen masks immediately, and seek out information from

your available resources. Your inflight crew can to help ascertain if fumes are generating from Pack 1 or Pack 2. Then contact SOC to report the event and obtain assistance or guidance from TECH OPS. If any crewmember reports

feeling physically impaired, or you are unable to control a large smoke or fumes event - then a diversion should be considered. We often communicate 'Fly SOP'. We remind you of the following two items

in our manuals:

• The Captain shall be the final and complete authority with regard to matters concerning aircraft operation, safety and security of Customers and fellow Crewmembers. (FOM 1.13.1)

• All pilots will follow normal procedures (SOP) during normal operations. The Captain has the authority to deviate from SOPs, but

only when unusual circumstances require him/her to do so in the interest of safety. (FCOM 4.1)

Afterward, be very specific in your write up of the event in the maintenance log. For instance, what phase of flight were you in? Were you taxiing out?

Top of descent? Also, note the location in the aircraft the fumes originated from (flight deck, front, or rear of the cabin). Finally, please note whether the APU was on or off during the event. The more detailed that you can make the

write up, the easier the problem can be diagnosed and fixed. it is apparent the JetBlue Executive Leadership is taking these events seriously and aircraft are being removed from service after a fumes event is

reported. Please review the recent communications [02/9/2017], [05/19/2017] from our Central Air Safety committee on fumes events as a reference. If you are involved in a fumes event and need assistance please call the ALPA Safety Hotline to speak with a member of your Central Air Safety Committee

Negotiation Update

Your negotiations committee met in Washington, DC this week to draft counter proposals and contractual language that will be presented during the upcoming negotiations session next week. The next negotiations session with

management will be May 22nd - May 25th in Washington, D.C. Look for an update next Friday on the progress made during this upcoming session.

Westchester County/Northern New Jersey Family Awareness Event - June 15

We will be hosting another Family Awareness Event for our JFK based pilots living in Northern New Jersey and Westchester County, NY on June 15, 2017

from 1800-2000 at Giovanni's Bicycle Club in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. The location is right across the river, about mile north of the George Washington Bridge and was chosen to accommodate the greatest number of local pilots. We welcome all JetBlue ALPA members in good standing along with their spouse or significant other for a free dinner and discussion regarding negotiations and how you and your families can support our efforts of a

BOS Family Awareness Dinner - Recap

This past Monday, May 15, at Gennaro's Eatery in Quincy, Mass, approximately 30 pilots and their spouses joined our Family Awareness Chairman, Javier Ramos-Green, for an informative dinner on understanding

the Railway Labor Act, the negotiating process, and an update on our progress thus far. They were joined for a question and answer session with our MEC Chairman Patrick Walsh and Strategic Preparedness and Strike

Chairman Brian Dawson. Everyone left the dinner with the understanding that along with pilot unity, support from our families, is the key to us negotiating the contract we deserve.

Annual Medical Reimbursement – May 26th

Per section F, paragraph viii. of the PEA - Pilot FAA Medical Reimbursement

- an allowance is paid to all pilots 'annually in May' for a portion of the costs associated with maintaining our medical certificates. Management has informed us that the reimbursement this year will again be via a special

payroll check at the end of the month on May 26th and not be included in your normal payroll check on the 20th.
