FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY…………… BLESSED AND GLORIOUS EASTER!! Only two weeks remain in this great Season of Easter. On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, the Church begins the transition to Ascension and Pentecost. This Thursday is Ascension Thursday, a holyday of obligation; however, the obligation is not in force this year, due to covid-19. But we still celebrate our Lord’s triumphant entry into Heaven! We begin our earnest prayer for the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Church teaches us that the 9 days following the Ascension are days of intense prayer and preparation for the Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We will pray the Pentecost Novena after Mass on the weekdays between May 22-31. We will have Mass on Saturday mornings, May 23 and May 30. We pray that our hearts will be ready to receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit once again, in order that we can cooperate in God’s work of “renewing the face of the earth.” Have you experienced renewal personally during this Easter Season? I hope so. Are you reflecting on the great gift of Resurrection from the Dead and Eternal Life? Every time we approach the Table of the Lord in order to receive Holy Communion we are anticipating eternal union with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in Heaven. By the time this is published, we will have moved into the “Yellow Zone” as we move out of quarantine somewhat and begin to move about a little more freely. As of May 15, the churches of the Diocese of Greensburg may be open for “private prayer” throughout the day. The Diocese is asking us to wear masks and to continue to maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet from another person. Our parish church will usually be open from about 9:00AM until about 3:30PM. If you would like to come into the church, please be advised that you should be seated in the area nearest the Reservation Chapel. You may go into the Reservation Chapel for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. As you might be aware, I have offered Mass every day throughout the quarantine and I will continue to do so. We are permitted to have 25 persons in the building at one time. If you would like to attend Mass some time, please call and we can arrange a day for you to participate.

I am wondering when we will be able to celebrate First Holy Communion. We also must schedule a time to celebrate Confirmation with our eighth graders. We have several infants whose parents desire Baptism for their children and who are

waiting for a day to celebrate. What about a Baccalaureate for our graduating seniors? We want to honor them for their achievement. We also want to plan a proper reception and party for Carol Serafin, who is retiring June 30 after many years of service to Holy Trinity Parish and the former Holy Trinity School.

I would also like to celebrate our Feast Day, which falls on June 7 this year. So much “in the air.” Please pray for an end to the “isolation” and pray that we

can begin to gather together again soon. Although I have mentioned this in the past, I want to reiterate that I am happy to celebrate the Sacraments with

the sick, the homebound, and any other person who needs the Sacraments. PLEASE – if you need the Sacrament of the Sick or the Sacrament of Penance – do not hesitate to call. We can arrange a way to celebrate these Sacraments safely.

The United States government is providing “stimulus” checks and/or deposits in the amount of $1,200 to many citizens who need these funds during the current pandemic and crisis. I am wondering if Holy Trinity can also benefit from this. May I humbly ask that you consider giving – if you are able – 1% ($12), 2% ($24), 3% ($36), 4% ($48), 5% ($60), or even 10% ($120) of your stimulus funds to the parish? I will match the contributions with up to $600 of my stimulus check. If you choose to participate in this project, please clearly designate that your contribution is part of the “Stimulus Fundraiser.” If your stimulus is $2,400, the percentages are double of the amounts for $1,200. However, any amount is certainly welcome and needed to help us in meeting our financial obligations. Thank you for your generosity and consideration.

We continue our success, praise God, with the Diocesan Lenten Appeal. As of Monday, May 11, we have received 155 gifts for a total of $66,775. We are at 138.23% of the goal! We have gone over the goal by $18,471. Thanks for your generosity. We have already received our first DLA refund from the Diocese -- $9,253.63. We have set aside this amount for future needs.

I also want to thank all parishioners who have continued offering their weekly contributions for church support. In know that many are facing challenges – thank you for remembering the needs of the parish at this time. Let us continue to grow in our trust in God – as the Divine Mercy image says, “Jesus, I trust in You.” God will never be outdone in generosity.

Have you ever considered online giving? We have the link for this set up on our parish webpage (www.holytrinityligonier.org). Please check it out if this is something that you are interested in. It would certainly be beneficial to the parish, especially in a time like this. Also, if you would be interested in “texting” your donations, that is an option, also. Let us know and we can provide the link for this. The diocesan webpage (www.dioceseofgreensburg.org) also has a tab that you can use in donating electronically to our parish. Thanks for your consideration.
