C MPASS I have enormous respect for Christian men and women who have to work in environments where vulgarisms, innuendo and impurity are part of the white noise they must live with every day. God Bless those courageous people who retain their dignity, their purity and their sensitivity in spite of daily assaults that trample everything they believe in and love under foot. Christians can easily become discouraged; it is not easy living in holiness in an unholy world. We get tired. We get disillusioned. We wonder if we’re really on the winning side. We can become spiritually depressed. Evil can be very wearying to the purest hearts. Don’t be discouraged. Nothing can pluck us out of God’s hand. The old hymn is still true: It WILL be worth it all when we see Jesus. We do win in the end. Nothing, absolutely nothing on earth can separate us from the love of God. Jesus is alive. God is in control. God is good. God will not fail us. God can keep us pure in an impure environment. God can keep us clean in an unclean culture. God can keep us sensitive in a jaded generation. What God says God will do. We have resources. We have the Word of God, the fellowship of our church and we have the storehouse of prayer. Pray the following prayer and trust in God. “Father, I pray that I might love holiness; show me the deceitfulness of sin that I might turn from it. I rejoice that Jesus is my holiness. Help me to draw from Him all that I need to follow Him in his love of righteousness. Give me a desire to turn from my sin by pursuing the disciplines of the Christian life that keep me connected with you all day long.”
