May 2001Presidents Trumpet

By Judith Nance

At first I thought that the Presidents Trumpet was so called to herald the news of the NTOC! No one ever mentioned that the title came from the nickname for the exhaust pipe on the 442I hope someone else learned something from this opening. We had a great April meeting at the Bath House! Members were very generous and provided salads and desserts. No rain (thank goodness), but a bit windy (my papers kept blowing everywhere). We did draw attention as we drove around the lakeonce we finally got together (sorry about that Mike PaytonI told him to turn at the wrong exit). Thank you all for making my first meeting such a success! Next meeting is May 20th (3rd Sunday because of Mothers Day) at the Flying S Farm, known to us as the Cadillac Ranch! Its west of Justin about 6-7 miles on 407 (directions to follow). It is an open field in front of a hanger. Bring your own CHAIRS, FOOD and DRINKS. The April 8th meeting was held at the Bath House (White Rock Lake). Our new President, JuJu started off the meeting by thanking everyone for coming.

Chris Dreiling passed around a schedule sheet for departure dates leaving for the Denver Nationals. There was some discussion about shipping cars (around $700) and car haulers.

Gene Crowdis gave a treasurer report with balance as of now being $4,980.07 and $228.48 of that amount is for the Adopt-A-Family fund. Gene mentioned that we had 138 club members renew membership and 25 that have not. The new roster, membership card and a receipt will be mailed out this month.

Bob Prince gave an update on the Zone Show. (See PAGE 4 of this newsletter for further information).

JuJu mentioned the trip to Rusk on May 5th. The price is $13.00 for adults and $7.00 for children if we have a total of 20 or more. Personal decision on bringing your car. Sharon has so kindly taken over as the organizer.

The pail was passed around for the Adopt-A-Family fund and so far to date the club has raised $285.00.

Comment was made about the Arlington-July 4th Parade. Lets show support. This should be a great time.

The next meeting will be held on May 20th at the Cadillac Ranch west of Justin. Darla Walker has been in con-tact with the owner, and due to his health reasons it will be up to each member to bring in their own food and drinks. It was noted that we would not hold a raffle this time either.

JuJu brought up that at the last meeting a member from the Porsche club mentioned a Charity Lap Rally on June 2nd. At this time we have no other information.

JuJu also noted that the sponsor form has been updated. Lets get more Sponsors!

Gene Crowdis commented that he has 20-2001 calendars left and is selling them for $10.00 each.

Vicky Patters mentioned that articles for the newsletter need to be turned by the 3rd Friday of every month.

On June 23-24th Rockwall is hosting their 3rd Annual Cruise and Blues Show. Events that will take place are a swap meet, Saturday cruise through Rockwall, arts and crafts. Darla Walker to get more information.

Two possible meeting places were brought up. One at the North Texas Motor Sport in Denton and La Hacienda Ranch.

JuJu was proud to say that Darla Walker is still the Sunshine Lady. Darla noted that everyone needs to contact new members. Make it a Point.

Chris Dreiling spoke about writing an assay to win a chance to drive an Indy Pace Car, information on www.oldsmobile.com

Gene Crowdis asked were he could locate 68 hood stops and gaskets for taillight housing. So anyone with some info for Gene, please call him.

Well we had a wonderful time at this meeting. As always great cars, good food and lots of visiting.

Happy Oldsmobiling!! Vicky Patters (standing in for the Secretary Guy)

The club has put in $285.00 over the last few club meetings. As mentioned by Mickey at the April meeting, just imagine what we will have raised by December if we keep up this giving. Wonderful!!!!!!

Have you ever stop to wonder WHY?

1. Why dont you ever see the headline Psychic Wins Lottery?

2. Why is it that when youre driving and looking for an address you turn down the radio?

3. Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

4. Why is the third hand on a watch called a second hand?

5. Why do you need a drivers license to buy liquor when you cant drink and drive?

This year the ZONE SHOW will be held the weekend of September 21-23 at the Harvey Hotel (Hwy 114 and Estes Road exit) with room rates of $69.00 per night (we need 20 rooms for Fri-day and 35 for Saturday to receive the hospitality suite). Friday night club members will bring a dish and Saturday the eats are provide by the club.

As of the April 8th meeting the following are the committee heads for each area (and still needs lots of volunteers):

A GOOD VENDOR If you need some pot metal chrome plating done, there are two things I can tell you; 1) it is expensive and 2) Pauls Chrome Plating in Evans City, PA does a good job. As some you have heard I am working on a 1968 442 convertible. I need to get it ready for the Nationals. Yes, the 2001 Nationals in Denver.

I had five pieces of pot metal that I wanted to have redone. Chris Dreiling recommended Pauls so I went with them. I packaged up the parts and shipped them off hoping for quick turn around. I receive a call with pricing and a FAX of the contract. All is well!! Maybe not, another call asking What kind of car I was working on since I had sent the vent wing pillar for a right side convertible and a left side hardtop. Remember these guys are busy doing chrome plating and they notice I sent mismatched parts. Not only that, they checked it out. Lucky for me as I saved a healthy chunk of money and even more I saved time. Hats off to a GOOD VENDOR who is looking out for his customer. When I got the parts back they looked great, all pits gone, a real professional job. I have talked to Jim at Pauls Chrome Plating about doing an ad in the Rocket and we are sending him a copy of this Rocket so he can show his employees that we do really appreciate those hard to find craftsperson who go the extra mile.
