Keynote Presentation: “Strategies for Behavior Change” Presented by: Annette Lang, Annette Lang Education Systems

Join Annette for an insightful discussion about the theory and practicalities of behavior change as it relates to our profession. For example, how do you best connect to people who are not even thinking of hiring a personal trainer? How does that communication change when they are a beginner, or long term client? By examining your own successes and struggles with your personal efforts you will better understand how to help others in making changes related to health and fitness.

2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Concurrent Breakout Sessions F

F-1 Turning The greatest generation into Your greatest Clients... How to Build and Service a Senior Clientele Hank DeGroat, Boston Sports Clubs & Mark Gifford, The Weymouth Club

There is no debating that the aging Baby Boomer and current senior population is a potential huge market for personal trainers. If you are interested in attracting and keeping the senior demographic, limiting your fears of training an aging population, and developing creative program design this workshop is for you.

F-2 Personal Training Results Through Coaching PJ Harder, Healthtrax & Heidi Duskey, Manchester Athletic Club

This presentation will give fitness professionals and personal trainers an effective and easy-to-use methodology for moving beyond instruction with clients/members. Using “coaching” techniques will change how your staff interacts with the people they serve. Coaching can be applied in all personal training practices, and is particularly effective in giving resistant clients a structure to help them move forward. For fitness professionals who perform club orientations and member re-assessments, these principles create a context for the conversation so that members leave feeling connected to staff and enthused about the possibility of their program. Members and clients become an active participant in their program development, providing real “buy-in” in goal setting. The results are greater client success, improved member retention, and increased personal training revenues.

F-3 Pilates or No Pilates: How to Make the Decision for Your Bottom line” Laura Hansen, Balanced Body Inc.

You will be introduced to -- and use -- evaluation tools to decide not just whether to bring Pilates into your personal training, but what kind of Pilates would best fit your members and your revenue goals. This is an interactive workshop where you will use the tools presented during the session.
