A_Program Zones

Space Ninety 8 / Wil l iamsburg, NYUrban Outf itters

This store integrated multiple program types into different floors of a 19th century building. The facade frames views into program zones, enticing pedestrians with brief glimpses of activity. Access to each program zone is controlled at the entry vestibule, allowing for versatile use of the space during special events. Spatial relationships became dominant qualities of the building's new identity.

Between design and occupancy, a primary challenge was designing details as a response to new and existing structural conditions.

Blended Storefronts Accent Details

Original Storefronts Final Design

501 West Main Street / Lexington, KYUrban Outf itters

The primary design intent for this store was to bridge and exhibit elements of the 4 historic buildings.

A continuous platform with new wall openings promoted circulation and uninterrupted sightlines. Many existing finishes were removed to reveal a patchwork of structural systems and layers of finish materials.

An existing stair was coupled and reinforced with a new steel stair so that it could be dissected and exhibited. Nominal and sheet lumber partitions were connected by site safety adapters to define transitory stall space. N50m

Due to the remoteness of the site and its proximity to the ocean, transit and durability became important design criteria for this stair system. Galvanized structural elements and prefabricated treads are the main components.

The design of this shade bench was developed for an urban farm on a brownfield site. A concrete barrier served as ballast for the system. Accessible materials were utilized in educational canopy types for after-school demonstrations.

Art students collaborated to produce their school's graphic identity through the medium of their discipline.

Each group's process was documented and blended into a short film for prospective students.

This installation evolved and served as a stage for gifting new designers at P&G's conference. Each phase responded to daily themes.

Comprised of a framed structure with replaceable interior panels, the 4'x4'x8' installation evolved daily.
