FR. EILEN’S... PASTOR’S PORTIONS”

July 1 & 8, 2018 | Page 3

For those who make frequent visits to our Adoration Chapel of the Annunciation, you’ve undoubtedly noticed for some time that there are niches to the right and left of the

tabernacle, but nothing occupying their empty spaces. Well, that is about to change.

In this bulletin I’m excited to reveal what has been !"#$#%&'$(')*'+,"-*.'#%'$/(0*'$!('%#-/*0'1'$/*'2%#0/*.'product of an art project commissioned by Fr. Blume in the last year before he left St. Patrick’s to become the Archdiocesan Director of Vocations.

Back in early 2015, a local artist – Mr. Eric Menzhuber–was commissioned to help develop a “Saints Project”, whereby those who come to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament could also be inspired to imitate the “Lives of the Saints.”

In researching the Church’s vast honor-roll of candidates, the goal was to

choose a family of individuals to both challenge and inspire our deepest desire to spend our eternity with God. The result is that twenty-four holy men, women, teens, and children are now beautifully portrayed in two paintings that will be positioned to adore with us the God who inspired them to pick-up their cross and follow-after Him.

This Adoration Chapel “Saints Project” has something for everyone. In vivid colors, these diverse witnesses of Christian virtue – coming from a true cross-section of every vocation: Priests-Religious-Married-Single – having lived out their universal call to holiness, were later recognized by Holy Mother Church as Saints, Blesseds, or Venerable.

3/#,*' $/*' 2%#0/*.' +"#%$#%&0' !#,,' )*'installed in their niches in our Adoration Chapel on Friday June 29th (Feast of Saints Peter and Paul), by the end of the summer these twenty-four holy men, women, teens, and children will be portrayed individually in a special book (4')#%.*4'$/"$'!#,,')4#*56'*7+,"#%'*"-/'(8'their faith-lives in more detail. Toward that end, one of our parishioners Mr.

Thomas Schulzetenberg has graciously volunteered his time to research and write-up each of their brief biographies.

My hope is that by learning more about these, our brothers and sisters in Christ, our own call to mature discipleship can be strengthened and encouraged. I hope and pray that you will take time to learn more about them, and seek, not only their intercession, but 2%.'9,#$$,*'!"60:'$('#;#$"$*'$/*#4'/*4(#-'*7";+,*0'#%'6(<4'everyday life.

Please make time in your busy lives – besides Sunday – to come and rest with Jesus in our Adoration Chapel of the Annunciation. Once there, may you open-wide the doors of your heart to Christ, and know for certain the unconditional love He has for you, so you can, not only receive this “Good News”, like these twenty-four holy witnesses did, but be willing to share it with others, in an authentic personal relationship to know, love, and serve God in this life, so that together we can be with Him forever in the next – thanks be to God!

Military Prayer WallIn this bulletin, I would also like to highlight our new Military Prayer Wall. Many thanks to Debbie Gillespie and friends for their hard work in leading this on-going project.

It is very important that we continue to give thanks for those who have served, and are currently serving our country, in the military or reserves. May we surround them and their families with our prayers and support, and may their guardian angels keep watch over them.

Dear St. Patick,

I remember sitting in the pews at St. Patrick 4 years ago during the Mass of Thanksgiving of the then-newly ordained Fr. Paul Shovelain, and thinking about how much fun he must

have been having, celebrating Mass among so many prayerful, joyful people. I thought about celebrating that moment myself one day, but it seemed so far away back then! Yet the Lord is truly faithful to His promises and steadfast in His love, and, crazy as it is to think about, the day did come when I was able to share this powerful moment of prayer and praise with all of you! Sunday was such a gift for me, in so many ways: to look out into those pews and see so many of you who have carried me through this journey by your constant prayers and support! It was also a gift for me to be able to preach, and to hopefully share a little bit of the learning I have received throughout my time ,-# :'1,-$*45# E%# ($-# :!1'%,1':# F'# 7,C()3%#preaching to people who know you well, but I felt very comfortable up there, and it helped being able to look around the church and see how excited all of you were for me. I will cherish and appreciate everything you have done for me over the years, and, in a particular way, I will always be grateful for the joys of this past weekend! Thank you for the beautiful Spiritual Bouquet (which I need greatly!), and be assured that I will think of you all whenever I wear the lovely vestments in honor of our Immaculate Lady. You have all been such a wonderful family to me! I pray that God will continue to reward you for your generosity.

In His Love, Father Colin Jones

This week’s Pick is The Four-Way Medal. The earliest known Christian medals date back to the 2nd century. Wearing a religious medal is an outward sign of faith and devotion, as well as a reminder to pray and perform acts of charity and worship. The Four

Way Medal is unique in that it combines four of the most popular medals into one. At the top of the cross of The Four Way Medal is the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jesus points to his exposed heart, $7!*-'7#G,%&#$#(*!G-#!A#%&!*-:;#*'<*':'-%,-?#%&'#:$(*,=(,$3#3!>'#$-7#mercy that Jesus Christ has for all humanity. On the left side, is the image of St. Joseph holding a lily and the baby Jesus. The St. Joseph medal represents guardianship, protection, and the lily he holds is a symbol of righteousness and purity. To the right, St. Christopher is carrying the baby Jesus across a stream of rushing water. The St. Christopher medal depicts the responsibility all Christians have to help others in need, the opportunity to seek intercession as we begin a journey, and our duty to learn and carry the teachings of Jesus Christ with us %&*!)?&!)%# !)*# 3,>':5# H%# %&'# F$:'# !A# %&'# (*!::# 4!)I33# =-7# %&'# ,1$?'#of the Miraculous Medal—a medal appointed by the Blessed Mother &'*:'3A# %&*!)?&#$<<$*,%,!-:# %!# J%5# K$%&'*,-'# L$F!)*M5#H-7#=-$334;# ,-#the middle of the cross is a dove, signifying the Holy Spirit received =*:%#,-#%&'#J$(*$1'-%#!A#N$<%,:1#$-7#$?$,-#$:#G'#$*'#K!-=*1'75#6&'#reverse side of the cross varies, but on many it reads, “I am a Catholic. Please call a priest.”—in the case of emergency. Since each part of The Four Way Medal is rich in historical and religious meaning, it deserves a much deeper explanation than can be given here. If you already have one or are thinking about getting one for yourself or as a gift for someone else, we’d encourage you to take some time to learn more about what each of the four medals represents and means in the history and tradition of the Catholic Church.

This past week has been an exciting opportunity to experience our faith for us teachers, the students and community. As a team, we’ve

received tremendous hospitality and support from parishioners, for which we are eternally grateful.

It’s wonderful to see the Holy Spirit at work in each and every one of our lives! Thank you so much

for this wonderful week; we hope to see you next summer. A special thank you to the volunteers,

parishioners, parents, and children that made this week possible! Please keep us in your prayers as
