Multilayer Coating U.S. Patent 5,462,770. Oct. 31, 1995 S. fWyazoe et al., assignors to Nippon Paint Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan
A process for forming a coating on a substrate comprising forming a primer coating or optionally further forming an intercoating on a substrate; coating a water- borne or solvent- borne color base paint on the primed or intercoated substrate; coating a clear paint thereon wthout curing the base paint layer; and baking both the base and clear coating layers to cure; an improve- ment being present in that the clear paint comprises the following components 5 to 50% by weight of a hydroxyl and carboxyl group containing silicone polymer, from 20 to 60% by weight of a carboxyl and car- boxylate group containing polymer, and 30 to 60% by weight of a hydroxyl and epoxy group containing polymer.
Process for Electroless Metal Plating on Plastic U.S. Patent 5,462,773. Oct. 31, 1995 J.A. Swift and TE. Orlowski, assignors to Xerox Corp., Stamford, Corm.
A method of forming at least one elec- trically conductive path having a pattern in a plastic substrate comprising providing a thermoplastic substrate having a melting point below 325°C; depositing a catalyst for the electroless deposition of conductive metals; heating the substrate to a tempera- ture sufficient to decompose the catalyst and soften the thermoplastic to enable the catalyst to penetrate the surface of the ther- moplastic and become anchored thereto to provide nucleation sites for the subsequent electroless deposition of conductive metal and depositing conductive metal by elec- troless deposition on the heated portion to form a conductive path.
Matte Electrodepositable Coating Composition U.S. Patent 5,462,9&T. Oct. 31, 199.5 T Takei et a/., assignors to Taogosei Co. Ltd., Tokyo
A process for preparing a matte elec- trodepositable coating composition, com- prising mixing a first mixture comprising a fluorine-containing resin and an acrylic
resin dissolved in a water-miscible organic solvent with a second mixture comprising an aluminum complex compound and an amino resin to prepare a third mixture; and mixing the third mixture with an aqueous medium to obtain a fourth mixture, wherein an alkaline substance is incorpo- rated in at least one of the fluorine-contain- ing resin, acrylic resin, amino resin, or aluminum complex compound to provide the fourth mixture with water solubility or water dispersibility.
Conversion Coating for Aluminum U.S. Patent 5,463,&?04. Nov. 7, 1995 SF: McCleary et a/., assignors to Aluminum Company of America, Pittsburgh
A process for making an assembly com- prising an aluminum alloy sheet joined to a metal member, comprising coating an alu- minum alloy sheet with a phosphorus-con- taining organic acid selected from the group consisting of organophosphonic ac- ids and organophosphinic acids, thereby to form a coated sheet having an organic,
