    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEOctober 30, 2013

An open letter to the voters of Beverly

Running for City Council in my hometown has been an amazing experience. I have especially enjoyedreconnecting with so many friends, neighbors, classmates, teammates, teachers and coaches during thiscampaign. I have also enjoyed meeting so many new acquaintances. I am truly grateful for the courtesy andrespect you have shown me as I appeared at your door step or approached you on the campaign trail. I willnever forget it. Thank you!

I am running because this is a critical, once in a lifetime election for Beverly and I believe I have theexperience we need on the City Council as we enter a new era. A new generation of leaders will soon facedecisions about a new middle school, waterfront development, a new public safety facility, development alongBrimbal Avenue and our downtown. These decisions will set the course for Beverly's future for years to come.

I grew up in North Beverly, attended Beverly public schools and graduated from Beverly High School in 1995.My wife Elizabeth is also a Beverly native. We've been married for eight years and together we have threeyoung children. We love our hometown and we want to see Beverly continue to move in the right direction.

I earned a degree in Political Science from Villanova University and interned on Paul Cellucci's successfulcampaign for Governor. I went on to join his staff in the Governor's Office which began a 15 year career in

the Massachusetts political arena that has included leadership roles on national and statewide campaigns. I'vethrived in high pressure environments, I've learned how to navigate government and I understand how thepolitical process works. This is valuable experience that will help me get things done for Beverly.

Improving transparency in our local government will be a top priority of mine. I've been a leader throughoutthis campaign in utilizing social media and will push for its use in city government. I have also made a realeffort to attend public hearings and community meetings to listen to and understand your concerns. We're allin this togetherand I will work hard to include you in decisions that are made moving forward.

I will also be a strong voice for the taxpayer on the City Council. Beverly has a city budget of more than$100M and Mayor Scanlon has managed it well over the years. I will make sure that we operate in a fiscallyresponsible manner and I will oppose any effort to pass a Proposition 2 Override.

This is a critical time for Beverly and I have the experience we need on the City Council. I am uniquelyqualified to serve and I ask for one of your three votes for City Council At-Large on November 5th.

    Thank you for your consideration!

    Sincerely,

    Matt St. Hilaire
