If I had 3 wishes, they would be... Opportunities appear everyday, but three wishes come once in a millennium. First I would wish for the ability to morph into any creature of my choice. Being a dragon, fi sh or even a goofy squirrel, I could have fun and escape from the stress of everyday life. Next, Iʼd try to be less selfi sh and make a world where every mentally challenged person is regular just like you and me. I feel badly when I observe people who have problems that no one can resolve. Finally, I would wish to have an intellect more massive than anyoneʼs on earth. Sometimes Iʼm confronted with problems that I canʼt solve and I want to get them over with. I could win contests and at the same time save the day through curing diseases such as cancer and AIDS. Helping the world and having fun are very important to me.by James Penney, age 10 –Goldrap-Gardner Boys & Girls Club

If I could have 3 wishes, they would be... My fi rst wish would be for people to take me for what I am and not what they want me to be. I am just 10 years old, in no way am I ready to decide what I want to be. Only God can guide me in that direction. My second wish is for my grandparents to live forever so that I can take care of them the way they have taken care of me and my little brothers and sister. My third wish is for my mother to get herself together so that she can be a mother to us and give Meme and Papa a little rest because they are devoting their time to us and need a break, but not a long one.by Asia Huff, age 10 –Jeffrey Boys & Girls Club

PROGRAM NEWS: Triple Play,Money Matters and Goals for Graduation

With support from an OJP grant through Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the FSBGC is offering three new programs at the Club this Spring: Goals for Graduation - introduces academic goal setting to members ages 6-15 by linking their future aspirations with concrete actions today. In goal-setting sessions, members set achievable “Know-I-Can” Goals, more challenging “Think-I-Can” Goals, and yearly “Believe-I-Can” goals. Members create an action plan with daily and weekly goals leading to short- and long-term gains. Staff members Roneka Jackson and Elizabeth Easter are program instructors.

Money Matters - promotes financial responsibility and independence among members ages 13-18 by building their basic money management skills. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. They also learn about starting small businesses and paying for college. Staff members Bill Martin and Steve Foot are instructors for the program.

Triple Play - a program that teaches young people about eating right, keeping fit and engaging in positive relationships. With support from the Coca-Cola Company and Kraft Foods, Triple Play implements three components that include: Mind, Body & Soul. Club members learn about the food pyramid, participate in daily fitness challenges, and have opportunity to improve social development and confidence through games, contests and activities. Staff members Tim Higgins and J.P Sonnier supervise the program.
