TRANSCRIPT
These courses are variable credit courses where students work individually with
self-teaching materials rather than a traditional lecture format. Instead of
meeting in a classroom, students will work independently with assistance from
instructors and tutors in the Math Resource Center (MRC).

Quick Facts and Tips about the MRC
Courses:
You need to attend an orientation
session and complete the syllabus
quiz and enrollment verification
form during the first three days of
the term. If you do not do so, you
will be “no-show” dropped from the
course.
Although you are expected to study
the material independently and uti-
lize the resources within the com-
puter software, we encourage you to
come to the MRC for additional as-
sistance when necessary.
Each term that you take MRC cours-
es, you will need a new course ID/
class key for WebAssign or MyMath-
Lab.
Students who are most successful in
the MRC courses treat this course
like their other courses and schedule
time each day/week to work on the
material.
You can not use a calculator on every
test. Be sure to check to the study
guide to see which tests allow you to
use a calculator and which ones
don’t.

You will be provided with a
Testing Schedule which shows
when your tests are due and the
testing zones.
The practice and graded tests are
untimed so there is no need to
rush—but you must finish before
the MRC closes!
If you complete the credits you
registered for before the end of
the term, you are allowed to
work ahead.

about homework, testing and
grading!
Homework
Study Guide:
The Study Guide divides each
credit into Modules and lists
which sections are covered
from the textbook. Each
module also has a module
review assignment that is cu-
mulative.
The Study Guide indicates
which tests you are allowed
to use a calculator on and
which ones you are not.
Homework Assignments:
Once you have finished studying the concepts and examples from
each section, you will use the online system (MyMathLab or
WebAssign) to complete your homework assignments. You must
get a score of 80% or higher mastery on each homework assign-
ment before the system will allow you to move to the next home-
work assignment.
When completing your homework assignments, you are encour-
aged to work the problems on paper, showing your steps.
If you need assistance while doing your homework, you should
come to the MRC.
This course is an independent study course.
This means that you will need to be motivat-
ed to work through the content and materi-
al on your own. When you need assistance,
we encourage you to come to the MRC and
work with a tutor!
You should study the sections using the text-
book, videos and tutorials within the online
system (MyMathLab or WebAssign), and
other online resources (Khan Academy,
YouTube, etc).

suggestions when doing your homework. There are

TEST #2 DUE
12 13
Testing prior to the testing zone
will result in 5% bonus to your
Graded Module Test score.
Testing after the test due date will
result in 5% deduction from your
Graded Module Test score.
During Finals Week:
You are allowed to take one make-up exam during finals week
if you have completed all other tests on or before Friday of the
last week of the term.
Testing Practice Module Tests:
After all the module home-
work is completed, you can
take a Practice Module Test.
This test is similar to the
graded test but does not
affect your grade. You can
retake practice tests if neces-
sary. Practice Module Tests
should be used as an indica-
tor of preparedness for the
Graded Module Tests. If the
you score 80% or higher on
the practice test, you are al-
lowed to take the graded test
the same day.
Graded Module Tests:
You are only allowed two
attempts at each Graded Mod-
ule Test and your score will be
that of the most recent
attempt. For this reason we
encourage you to take practice
tests, which do not affect your
grade, before taking graded
tests.
You can take only one attempt
at a Module test per day.
Test Rework:
If you score less than 70% on a
Graded Module Test, you are
required to complete a test con-
ference and rework with an
MRC staff member. During this
session, you may be assigned
problems from the text to com-
plete prior to taking your next
test.
You can opt to have a test con-
ference and rework session with
an MRC staff member after
completing a practice or graded
test. The MRC staff member will
discuss problems that you
missed on the test and suggest
areas you need to review.
Following a test conference, you
may not take a graded test on
the same day.
It is expected that your work
from the test be neat, organized
and easy to read.
All tests are taken in the Math Resource Center. To take a
test, you will check in at the Reception Counter in the MRC.
Although the tests are not timed, you must begin a test no
later than one hour before the MRC closes. Tests must be
completed by the time the MRC closes.
Grading
Grades for students enrolled in inde-
pendent study Math Resource Center
classes will be determined using a com-
bination of Graded Test Scores and
Homework Scores.
Graded Test Scores are Averaged:
Tests will be worth 90% of your overall
grade. The Graded Module Test scores
will be averaged to determine this part
of your overall grade.
Homework Scores are Averaged:
Homework will be worth 10% of your
overall grade. The homework scores are
averaged to determine this part of your
overall grade.
Grades Issued for ALL enrolled Credits:
The grade you earn is for the TOTAL
number of credits you successfully com-
plete. If you do not complete all the
credits for which you are enrolled, an F
grade will be assigned for the incom-
plete credits. A rare exception is if you
have earned a passing grade for at least
75% of the tests. In this case, an Incom-
plete grade can be issued and you must
complete the material during the fol-
lowing term.
Percentage Letter Grade
90 — 100% A
80 — 89% B
70 — 79% C
60 — 69% D

Withdrawing:
If you wish to withdraw from the MRC course and re-
ceive a full refund it is your responsibility (not the col-
lege’s) to withdraw by the refund deadline (midnight
on Sunday following the 1st week of classes).
If you wish to add or drop credits in your MRC course,
you must do so before 5PM Friday of the 8th week of
classes. During summer session the deadline is Friday
of the 5th week. Instructor approval is still needed to
add credits. Remember, there is no refund for drop-
ping credits after the 1st week of classes.
If you do not complete all the credits for which you
are enrolled, an F grade will be assigned to the incom-
plete credits.
Unsuccessful Students: Students that do not pass any
MRC credits for which they have enrolled are usually
not permitted to re-enroll in MRC courses. They are
directed to appropriate level lecture classes.
