Materials Innovations in Surface Engineering 2013

University of South Australia, Adelaide, November 19 to 21, 2013.

Materials Australia is excited to invite you to attend the second international conference on surface engineering, this time to be held in the beautiful city of Adelaide, Australia.

Modification of a material´s surface to improve its performance is applicable to both metallic and non-metallic materials and is of interest to all industrial sectors, all of whom are striving for increased functionality, innovation, lower production costs, improved utilization, and lower downtime. Surface engineering is a wide topic and includes the application of organic and inorganic coatings, surface modification by heat treatment or chemical vapour deposition, alloy or polymer selection, weld overlay, thermal spray and many more.

With the conference goal being to achieve a dynamic mix of academic and industrial papers, we are very pleased with the broad range of topics from both research and industry represented in our programme. We have been able to attract presenters from the UK, France, Greece, Germany, Iran Latvia, the USA, China and Singapore as well as from right across Australia. We hope that the conference provides you with a greater insight into the industry and allows you to expand your industry networks and foster collaborative working relationships for the future.

MISE 2013 Committee

Conference Chairman& Treasurer: Paul Howard, CMatP (WA)

Secretary: Catherine Whitby (SA)

Technical: Drew Evans (SA)

Sponsorship: Scott Abbott (SA)

Marketing: Hussein Hamka (VIC)

Social Program: Susana Isabel Brito E Abreu (SA)

Paper Review Committee: Drew Evans, Paul Huggett, Tuquabo Tesfamichael, Mikael Johansson.

Heat Treatment for Surface Engineering Training Course

On the Thursday, 21st November, Materials Australia will also present a one technical training workshop on heat treatment and its use in surface engineering. This course is designed to be an introduction to the science and engineering of industrial heat treatment and how it has been applied in industry to provide longer life and more durable engineering components for our modern society.

This course will be presented by Paul Howard who has worked extensively in the Australian surface engineering and heat treatment sector. The course materials were originally prepared and presented by Ray Reynoldson who sadly passed away late last year. To commemorate his contributions to the Institute we intend to present the Ray Reynoldson Award to the best paper at this Conference.
