CALCULATION OF THE HYDRAULIC DIAMETER Dh THE USABILITY OF SEPARATORSPAVAN EKOLOGIJA d.o.o. was established with the purpose of bringing to thedemanding market high quality and high e ciency gravitational self-cleaningseparators to separate oil, grease and solids from industrial, technological waste water.

0,675 dm29.3 dm HIGHLY EFFICIENT PAVAN MASTER-PACK SEPARATORS are designed according to

our own patents and technology, which is meeting the strictest international standardsEN 1858. UL 42 and API 421. Installation and use of the highly e cient MASTER-PACKSEPARATORS manufactured by PAVAN EKOLOGIJA d.o.o. is the most economical andthe safest solution for waste water treatment of industrial and rain waste water. Wastewater, treated with this method, can be discharged directly into the naturalenvironment or to the sewage system. A ordable price and simple maintenance aretwo more reasons to use our separators, which do not require expensive electrical energy, expensive chemicals, expensive biological substances and expensivemaintenance. The main users and places, where highly e cient PAVAN MASTER-PACKSEPARATORS or other types of separators with equal or better characteristics shouldbe used are: taverns, restaurants, hotels, crude oil land lls and the surrounding area, oilre neries, oil products manufacturers, warehouses and waste land lls of oil products, transporters for oil products, gas stations, harbors, ships, marinas, roads, highways, airports, railway stations, car washes, repair shops, garages and larger car parking lots, mechanical workshops, electrical power stations, transformer, manufacturers of metaland plastic products, foundries, mines, quarries, land lls, military stations and manyothers. Old models of gravity separators without or with ine cient small coalescers areinstalled at the majority of those places. It is unacceptable that these separators are stillinstalled into new projects. This kind of separators cannot purify the waste water, whichwas polluted with oil, grease and solids, according to the required European norms of10 milligrams of oil per liter of water or to oil droplets of 40 microns. Installation of oldmodels of gravity separators is a missed and dangerous investment for the naturalenvironment.

A number of older, technologically outdated separators could be improved by installing

in them highly e cient PAVAN COALESCER with suitable ba es. Years of experience ofPAVAN PRODUCT on international markets have help us to develop separators, which are capable of purifying the waste water polluted with oil, grease and solidsaccording the European standards. PAVAN SEPARATORS are simple for maintainand service. We will be happy to respond to your call and help you solve your problemswith waste waters.SEPARATORS WITHOUT LARGE EFFICIENT COALESCERS ARE LIKE CARS WITHOUTENGINES.

VR is the same as the Mhd or the minimal lifting rise velocity of small oil droplets, whichwas calculated before. The above equation is used to calculate the diameter of small oil droplets, which will besuccessfully separated by the e cient PAVAN MASTER-PACK coalescer.THIS CALCULATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR PROVING THE OILSEPARATION EFFICIENCY OF THE SEPARATOR.

D = 40 microns or substituted with the amount of oil left in the puri ed water is 8milligrams per lliterWaste water, puri ed in such a way, can be discharged into the sewage system ordirectly into the natural environment. It is a well known fact that the world standards for puri cation of waste water are becoming stricter and that polluted water will have to be puri ed better than it is today. The use of PAVAN MASTER-PACK separators is an investment into the future, since theypurify the waste water a lot better than required by current standards. All old andine cient separators in use today will have to be updates to increase their e ciency, orreplaced with new separatorsTHE CALCULATION OF THE WASTE WATER FLOW CONDITION IN THE COALESCER,EXPRESSED WITH THE REYNOLDS EQUATIONRE = Dh V V 0,29 0,3 1== 129

OPERATION OF THE SELF-CLEANING OIL, GREASE, WATER AND SOLIDSGRAVITY SEPARATOR WITH SEMI-AUTOMATIC REMOVAL OF OIL ANDGREASE FROM THE SEPARATORThe waste water polluted with oil, grease and solids flows into the separatorthrough an inlet valve 3, a deflector, which is welded to the cover changes thedirection and the velocity of the waste water flow. Rough separation of oil, greaseand larger solids takes place in the inlet section of the separator. Larger dropletsof oil and grease flow to the surface of the water, while larger solids sink into thecontainer for larger solids 2.Further shift of larger solids are prevented by a perforated baffle on container 2.Baffle 7 slows turbulent flow of waste water, which flows into the highly efficientcoalescer 8, which contains flat plates installed into the coalescer frame at50angle. This helps coalescence of small oil droplets and grease on theunderside surface of flat plates into larger drops, which flow to the edge of the flatplates and to the surface of the water, as shown with arrow 25. Smaller solids fallon the top surface area of the flat plates and glide to the lower edge of the flatplates and sink to the bottom of the separator 24. Fine separation of oil, greaseand solids in the coalescer 8 is performed according to the STOCK law. Thepurified water in the coalescer 8 flows out of the separator under the outlet baffle19 and through outlet valve 12.

REMOVING OF LARGER SOLIDS FROM THE SEPARATORTHE CALCULATION OF THE OIL DROPLETS REMOVAL EFFICIENCYFROM WaEST WATER IN THE PAVAN MASTER-PACK SEPARATORThe efficiency of the oil droplets removal is calculated according to the STOCKlaw for gravitational separation. It is expressed with the following equation:

The removal of larger solids collected in the container for larger solids 2 isaccomplished by closing the waste water inlet valve 3 and by loosening the nutson screws 6 on cover 4. Remove the lever holders and turn the tab 35. Lift the container for larger solids and remove it from the separator. Remove the largersolids from the container 2 and wash it wi th flush a of hot water. Place the cleancontainer 2 for larger solids in the tank of the separator 1. Place the cover on the flange on the tank of the separator and tight it. When the inlet valve of waste water3 is opened, the separator is ready for reuse again.

Pressurized hot water will fill the top part of separator tank and press out the oiland grease from the separator through the outlet valve 14 into an external container. When clean water flows out of the outlet pipe for oil and grease theprocess of removal of oil and grease is completed. Closing the inlet valve for hotwater 5 and the outlet valve for oil and grease 14 then, opening the outlet valve forpurified water 12 and waiting for the water to drop to the operating level. Openingthe inlet valve of waste water 3 the self-cleaning separator is ready to be reusedagain.

CALCULATION AND PROOFS EFFICIENCY OF PAVAN MASTER-PACKSEPARATORS

ADVANTAGES OF HIGH EFFICIENT PAVAN MASTER-PACK SEPARATORS1. The biggest advantage of PAVAN MASTER-PACK SEPARATORS is that they

purify waste water according to the required European standards (or even better), which can be discharged directly into the sewage system or into thenatural environment.

    2. Simple cleaning and maintenance of the highly efficient separator, which canbe done by the staff working in the kitchen or by maintenance personnel (seecost comparison).

    3. The quality of the PAVAN MASTER-PACK SEPARATORS is emphasized bythe fact that they are manufactured from stainless steel, which guarantees longuse, excellent hygiene, cleanliness of the working environment and years-longwarranty.

    4. A very successful combination for complete purification of waste water with oil, grease and solids, emulsified substances (such us detergents, pcb, pesticides), heavy metals and many other contaminants is achieved bycombining gravitational separation of oil , grease and solids in PAVAN HIGHLYEFFICIENT MASTER-PACK separators and ULTRA FILTRATION as secondstage for removal of emulsified substances and other contaminants

FIVE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS, WHICH EVERY SELLERAND MANUFACTURER OF SEPARATORS SHOULD ANSWER.1. Whether the separation of oil, grease and solids is implemented in the

separator, without the coalescer or in a separator with highly efficient coalescer.

    2. What is the velocity of the waste water flow in the separator and whether it hasperforated baffles, which reduce the velocity of the flow.Old separators3 m/min.PAVAN MASTER-PACK0.3 m/min.

    3. The mathematical calculation according to the STOCK law for the calculationof oil removal efficiency of the separator, with the minimum size of oil droplets.Old separators150 microns.PAVAN MASTER-PACK40 microns.

    4. What is the REYNOLDS number, which determines whether the flow of wastewater is turbulent or l inear.Old separatorRE = 800 turbulent and over.PAVAN MASTER-PACKRE = 129 linear.

    5. What is the ratio between the maximum waste water flow in the separator and flat plate area, expressed in liter of the water on a square meter of the plate surface area.Old separators50 l/m2PAVAN MASTER-PACK10 l/m2.

2500Due to undisturbed all-day kitchen operations we designed a special version ofMASTER-PACK double separator. The left and the right side are both operational during normal separator operations. It is possible for right or left side of separatorto function normally, while oil, grease and solids are removed from the other side. The waste water poluted with oil, greasy and solids flows into the separator tank 9through an inlet valve 1. A deflector, which is welded to the cover, changes thedirection and the velocity of the waste water flow. Rough separation of oil, greaseand larger solids takes place in the inlet section of the separator. Larger oildroplets lets and grease rise to the surface of the water, while larger solids sinkinto the container for larger solids 2. The waste water continues to flow throughthe perforated wall of the container for larger solids 2 and through the perforatedbaffle 7, which slows turbulent waste water flow entering into the highly efficientcoalescer 8, which contains flat plates installed in coalescer frame at a 50angle.This helps the coalescence of small oil droplets and grease on the underside

surface of flat plate into larger droplets which then flow to the edge of the flat plateand rise to the surface of the water, as shown with arrows in the MPH 0240 drawing. Smaller solid particles fall on the top surface area of the plate and slideto the lower edge of the flat plate and sink to the bottom of the separator into a pyramid compartment. Fine separation of oil, grease and solids in the coalescer 8 is performed according to the STOCK law. The purified water in the coalescer 8flows out of the separator under the outlet baffle 6 and through valve for purifiedwater 12.In the old previously installed oil, grease separators, only roughseparation of oil, grease and larger solids is performed. Therefore, they are inefficient, since they purify the waste water to a much lesser degree than isallowed by the European standards.
