Master of Professional Accounting

The University of Tasmania’s Master of Professional Accounting offers a number of advantages to help you succeed in the business world.

Course overview

The Master of Professional Accounting at the University of Tasmania is designed for graduates with an undergraduate degree, from disciplines other than accounting, to develop skills to meet the entry requirements necessary for Associate Membership of the professional accounting bodies.

During the course you will develop skills and find solutions by applying your technical knowledge and ability to research authentic situations in the accounting context. You will also have the opportunity to present your research findings to both accountants and non-accountants through the most suitable methods.

The Master of Professional Accounting Specialisation is designed to teach those who do not have an accounting background, or who need to up-skill, to meet the professional accounting requirements. Students who successfully complete the first eight units of the Master of Professional Accounting Specialisation are able to apply for an associate membership with CPA Australia.

A CPA is a finance, accounting and business professional with a specific qualification. Being a CPA is a mark of high professional competence. It indicates a soundness in depth, breadth and quality of accountancy knowledge.

CPAs are widely regarded by employers and members. It provides members with an internationally recognised qualification as well as the opportunity to complete specialist training and continuing professional development.

In order to successfully complete the CPA Specialisation, once the first eight units of the Master of Professional Accounting have been completed, students will then be required to apply for an associate membership with the CPA. They can then enroll in the five CPA units and sit both the University of Tasmania exams for those units and the CPA Australia exams.

For information about the CPA Program, please read page 6 of this brochure and visit cpaaustralia.com.au

The Master of Professional Accounting offers participants from different academic and experiential backgrounds the opportunity to specialise in accounting for professional recognition.
