The Master of Dementia Program focusses on four core domains:
Health and Social Care in DementiaExplores a range of approaches aimed at supporting people living with dementia to maintain healthy lives.
Neurobiology of DementiaThe function and dysfunction of the brain are examined to provide a deep understanding of the diseases which cause dementia and their diagnosis and treatment.
Policies and Systems in DementiaThe needs of people living with dementia are highlighted in an examination of the ways that health care systems and government policy affect health and social care provision.
Public Health and DementiaThe evidence for dementia prevention and health promotion innovations, such as dementia-friendly communities, are examined in the context of a public health lens.
If you are working or engaged in dementia care or policy, the Master of Dementia Program will build your capacity as a transformative leader in the field and improve career opportunities.
About this course
The rising prevalence of dementia is creating new challenges and a pressing need for change in the way our systems and practices support people who live with dementia. This program will equip you with the expertise to lead transformation, based on the latest evidence.
Developed by the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, the international leader in dementia education, this program is aimed at graduates and professionals currently working within, or building their expertise in, a field related to dementia.
The program offer a comprehensive understanding of dementia from the perspectives of individuals, families, communities, health and social care systems and governments; and cover the neurobiology of dementia, including pathology, biomarkers and therapeutics.
What’s involvedThis flexible, fully online program features modular content suitable for a wide range of study approaches. It is easy to navigate and accessible across a range of devices. Your personal perspectives will be highlighted throughout the course in assessments which link acquired knowledge to individual contexts, making the program relevant and up-to-date.

Aimed at graduates and professionals currently working within, or building their expertise in, a field related to dementia.
The people behind the program The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre was established with core funding from the J.O. and J.R. Wicking Trust (Equity Trustees) and is located within the College of Health and Medicine at the University of Tasmania.
The Wicking Dementia Centre is a global leader in dementia research and education, with a mission to transform the understanding of dementia worldwide and to build a workforce to lead positive change in dementia care.
It combines quality research in the themes of Care, Cause and Prevention of dementia, with advanced online learning technologies, to achieve its purpose of addressing the global impact of dementia.

Population ageing is transforming Australian and global societies. To meet the needs of creating a skilled workforce in ageing, the internationally recognised Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre has created the Bachelor of Ageing and Dementia Studies. This new undergraduate degree explores contemporary issues relating to ageing, aged care, and dementia in Australia, to skill a workforce for now and into the future.
The Bachelor of Ageing and Dementia Studies will help you to develop your managerial and leadership skills through an interdisciplinary, evidence-based approach which draws upon the knowledge of our experts who will guide you to deepen and develop your skills in working with and for older adults.

Where it can take youAs our societies move towards having more older adults than children and younger people in the population, it is vital that our social services and infrastructures are reimagined and redesigned to support this growing demographic. This will include new workplace and career opportunities that require expertise in ageing and aged care.
To best prepare our society and community for this significant demographic and social change, we need new interdisciplinary ways of thinking. Graduates from the Bachelor of Ageing and Dementia Studies will be equipped to become innovators and leaders in ageing, aged care, and dementia.
This degree qualification will enable you to proactively respond to the demographic changes in Australia, which opens new workforce and career possibilities in management and leadership in the health, social and aged care sector.
