In addition the AmeriCorps members will leverage 6,000 volunteers that will be engaged in periodic physical service projects to benefit partner schools. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improving the kindergarten readiness of at least 619 of the 911 children anticipated to complete the program by building the language and literacy skills the children need to succeed in kindergarten. The AmeriCorps members will leverage an additional 606 volunteers who will engage in service projects that benefit preschool children and their families. The program will focus on the CNCS focus area of education.
