A woman about to get married wanted the pastor to change the part of the wedding vows that say "until death do us part," to "for all eternity." Although a sweet request, this is beyond our human pay grade to claim. We are in no position to assert that the rela-tionships we experience now in this earthly life will remain un-changed in the life to come.

The Sadducees are part of a trend of trying to trap Jesus at this point. Jesus counters their attempt to trap him with a scriptural story that affirms that which they did not believe: the reality of the life to come, but one in which current relationships take on a different form. He exposes the motiva-tion for their question and affirms that God is God, not of the dead, but of the living. That means that God is God of those who are alive on earth and yet struggle with the reality of death.

God is also God of those who have passed to the next life and who come to a broader perspective on the relationships they've known while on earth. A man one time, told his wife that he never want-ed her to remarry if he died before she did. He passed away at age seventy-five and she was lonely. After a couple of years, she began to enjoy the company of a man whose wife had died several years before. He had asked her to marry him but she said, "My husband never wanted me to re-marry." He loved her and didn't like the thought of her being with someone else. We would imagine he has a different, broader per-spective, beyond just this earthly life and would bet that his desire for her to be happy would be his primary focus.

In the life to come we "cannot die anymore," says Jesus, "because we are like angels and are children of God…children of the resur-rection.” Jesus' countering of their objection is not an affirmation of immortality, but of hope. God is the God of hope, two by two and one by one, the old and the young. Before long, the Sadducees receive the living proof of Jesus' defense of the Resurrection when he himself dies, but is alive again. His resurrection gave us faith, hope and love to live. We are all alive in God!

Aunque es una solicitud dulce, está más allá de nuestro grado de pago humano para reclamar. No estamos en posición de afirmar que las relaciones que experimen-tamos ahora en esta vida terrenal permanecerán sin cambios en la vida venidera.

Los saduceos son parte de una tendencia de tratar de atrapar a Jesús en este punto. Jesús contrarresta su intento de atraparlo con una historia de las Escrituras que afirma lo que no creían: la realidad de la vida por venir, pero una en la que las relaciones actuales ad-quieren una forma diferente. Afirma que Dios es Dios, no de los muertos, sino de los vivos. Eso signi-fica que Dios es Dios de aquellos que están vivos en la tierra y, sin embargo, luchan con la realidad de la muerte. Dios también es Dios de aquellos que han pasado a la próxima vida y que llegan a una perspectiva más am-plia sobre las relaciones que han conocido mientras estuvieron en la tierra. Nos imaginamos que tiene una perspectiva diferente, más allá de esta vida terrenal, y que su deseo de que ella sea feliz sería su enfoque principal. En la vida venidera "ya no podemos morir", dice Jesús, "porque somos como ángeles y somos hijos de Dios ... hijos de la resurrec-ción". La respuesta de Jesús a su objeción no es una afirmación de inmortalidad, sino de esperanza. Dios es la esperanza, dos por dos, uno por uno, adultos o jóvenes. En poco tiempo, los saduceos reci-ben la prueba de Jesús, cuando él mismo muere, pero está vivo de nuevo. Su resurrección nos dio fe, esperanza y amor para vivir ¡Todos estamos vivos en Dios!

Keeping the Promise Alive is a re-

fresher program that provides ongo-

ing awareness for the prevention of

child sexual abuse. The material cov-

ered in Keeping the Promise Alive is

designed to identify and reinforce the

lessons of the original Protecting

God's Children® for Adults program. If you took the

Protecting God's Children program in 2015, you are

invited to continue with that responsibility to protect

God’s children.

This is a requirement from the Archdiocese of Los An-

geles that every minister/volunteer take this class.

The workshop will be presented in English and

runs approximately 2.5 hours.

Viva en un programa de actualiza-

ción que brinda una conciencia

continua para la prevención del

abuso sexual infantil. El material

cubierto esta diseñado para identificar y reforzar las

lecciones del programa original de Protegiendo los Ni-

ños de Dios. Si tomo el programa en el año 2015, esta

invitado a continuar con esa responsabilidad de prote-

ger a los hijos de Dios. Este es un requisito de la Ar-

quidiócesis de Los Angeles para que cada ministro y

voluntario tome este taller.

El taller será presentado en ingles solamente y dura

aproximadamente 2.5 horas.

Thank you BSU moderator from BCL High School, (they brought goody bags loaded with treats), and to Marissa and her husband Nigel, daugh-ter Sofia and son Luca. Thank you all for spending your after-noon being a blessing for our guests. Amen.

The Boutique is just a few weeks away. We have request-ed via the bulletin and altar announcements that WE RE-ALLY NEED YOUR ASSIS-TANCE AND SUPPORT IN GETTING THE WORD OUT TO THE COMMUNI-TY ABOUT OUR BOU-TIQUE.WE HAVE A WON-DERFUL BAKE SALE AND AWESOME PARTICI-PANTS WITH MANY ONE OF A KIND ITEMS FOR GIFTING. We are asking each church member to take a flyer to pass on and on Sunday November 24, to bring a friend to mass and then to the Bou-

tique and treat them to a cup of our specialty coffee and one of our muffins from our “COFFEE/MUFFIN BAR". Then take them to our special gathering place on the Placita for fellowship.

We are behind the church eve-ry Sunday mass until November 17. We never refuse smiles or hugs so if you have some you want to give, any away, we'll gladly accept them.

We will accept used clothing donations on November 10, 17, and December 1, 16. Please, do not bring large appliances or TV's. You may drop off your donations in front of the pod near the storage container from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on SUNDAYS ONLY, PLEASE.

Father let us hear and give thought to the message given by a mother to her children when they were very young and repeated by them to their chil-dren "You are not here to be served, you are here to serve.” Kindness is a choice. Please continue to pray for each other, world wide unity and peace each day of your journey.
