Sunday Programs - 9:45 am - 10:45 am

Childcare services are available at the POP Nursery during Sunday morning programs. Resurrection and the Afterlife in the New Testament St. Monica Room Central to our Christian faith is a belief in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Dr. Candida Moss, noted Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame, helps us understand the significance of that belief. On February 7, we will discuss Ethics, Pedagogy, and the Afterlife. Facilitated by Sonya Phillips and Mike Brown.

Scripture in “Action” St. Elizabeth Room

Weekly gatherings discuss the current week’s readings and how the words of Scripture speak to us. Help share in gaining a better understanding of God’s message in Scripture as we discuss the Sunday readings, how they relate to us today, and seek ways to apply God’s message in our daily lives. Led by Tom & Elsbeth Germanson.

Religious Education

“Helping Restless Teens to Focus on Faith – Part 3 of 3”

Changing things up with a variety of dynamic elements keeps them stimulated, but sometimes students need help to slow

down and discover what they themselves think about a topic. “We give them time to form their thoughts so that they are

more constructive in their comments. That way, it’s not just two or three students dominating the discussion-and there’s

more meaning and ‘teeth’ to the discussion”, states Mike Foley, a teacher of moral theology at Chaminade High School in

Mineola, NY.

Close attention must be paid to finding pathways to the student’s own deeper sense of meaning-an essential step toward

God. With a deft sense of timing that supports the opening of the mind and heart of each student, the wise and caring

faculty at Chaminade save the best for last. “We end every retreat and evening of recollection,” says Foley, “with 20 to 30

minutes of Eucharistic Adoration. It ends with a question to ponder and gives them time to reflect and bring it to God. They

appreciate it. They don’t often have that opportunity to reflect.”

I leave you to reflect on the words of the psalmist: Be still and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:11) (Our Sunday Visitor, Lisa

Mladinich)

Please continue to keep the children, their families and teachers in your prayers as they continue the Faith

Formation of our parish children.

Adult Confirmation

Program During the six Sundays of Lent,

beginning February 14, Prince of Peace Parish will offer an adult formation series, Waking Up Catholic. This program is intended for people who have been baptized but never confirmed as Catholics, those who have been away from the Church, and anyone wanting to learn more about the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith. Sessions will meet in St. Monica room from 9:45 to 10:45 am.

Participants may receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil service on March 26. The series is based on the excellent book, Waking Up Catholic, by Chad Torgerson. Contact Mike Brown at [email protected] or 822-9125, ext. 14 for more information. All are Welcome!

Want a positive Lenten activity? Come and share in discussing the Sunday Scriptures and how

the passages influence us in our daily lives. What is it the sacred writers of the Bible were trying to tell their audiences

and how do we apply their message today? Walk with us through Lent to the Passion of our Lord. Just 1 hour, between the masses, for the 6 Sundays before Holy Week…and then an

option to continue! We meet all year long. Scripture in Action, Sundays – 9:45 to 10:45 -- St Elizabeth Room(school end of the gathering space) For more information – Tom or Elsbeth Germanson 565-3456

Food Pantry Items

“For I was hungry and you gave me food….in so far as you did this to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me,” Matthew: 35,40. Food pantry items are collected in the Gathering Space on Wednesdays and at all Sunday Masses. Prayfully consider participating in this ministry.

Stewardship:

Parishioners Answering God’s Call Many parish families participated in the Service Pillar’s Day of Service event held in December. Over 200 no-sew blankets were constructed and donated to Catholic Family Services. The blankets are used for their disaster program to accompany cots, but frequently they go to families that come to them for assistance. These blankets represent caring individuals and families making them by hand in cheerful colors for other individuals and families going through traumatic events such as disasters and home fires. These blankets mean so much more than FEMA bought drab blankets made in China. The recipients are told that these gifts of color, warmth, and love come from POP parishioners who care about them.

Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected].

They may be edited for space consideration.

Important Bulletin

Ministry to the Sick: Volunteers Needed The Catechism of the Catholic Church states the priority with which Jesus held the care of the sick and dying as a component of his ministry and life: Christ’s compassion toward the sick and his many healings of every kind of infirmity are a resplendent sign that ‘God has visited his people’ (Luke 7:16).

If you feel a calling to be a Minister to the sick and deliver the Eucharist to those who cannot come to be fed, now is the time to answer this call to action. For more information e-mail, [email protected] or call Stacey Fitch 822-9125 ex.43.
