My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

No matter what age we are, I reckon all of us have some burning questions we’d like to ask God. At age four, a normal child wants to know when it thunders, is that really just God moving about his furni-ture? And at age seven, it gets interesting because the child wants to know where does baby sisters come from and how can they be sent back? As teenagers, we want to know how to get our parents off our backs. And as we en-ter adulthood, we may want to know why despite the Lord giving us so many good things our lives feel empty or meaningless. In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear of Sadducees who have their own burning questions that they want to ask Jesus (Lk. 20). This group took their faith so seriously that most other people found them annoying. They asked one question after another. Like the Sadducees, the Pharisees, another intensely religious group, posed many questions to Jesus throughout His public ministry. These were asked to try to trap Him or put Him in trouble. Questions like, “By what authority are You doing all these things?” “Who gave You this au-thority; is it human or divine?” And “is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor or not?” One such question is the long one we hear the Saddu-cees putting to Jesus in this Gospel. The trap they set is that they already know the answer. But in his reply, Jesus invites them to broaden their horizons about God. They want to know about resurrection, which they didn’t believe in; if you are dead you are dead, so how could you be alive? That was their logic, hence their really long ques-tion about the woman who married seven brothers. Jesus says that their ideas about resurrection are wrong. Resur-rected life is a whole new way of life; it is life without marriage, life without death. In his answer to the Sadducees, Jesus uses a logic that silences them. If we’d continued reading this part of Luke’s Gospel we would have learned in the next line that when Jesus had finished giving his reply, ‘no one dared to ask Him any more questions.’ My Brothers and Sisters, today at Mass try and identify if there’s some burning question you would like Jesus to answer. Don’t be afraid to ask it! Ask it in those daily con-versations with Jesus, for which we should all make time. Staring into the heavens, scanning the horizon or looking outside the kitchen window can all be moments when, having asked Jesus our burning question, we give Him time to reply. He did answer the really long question put to Him by the Sadducees. Let us give Him the opportunity to answer our questions. He still wants to be for us what His heavenly Father sent Him to be: Our Lord and Savior and the Teacher of Surprises!

Desde el Escritorio del Párroco Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo!

No importa la edad que tengamos, creo que todos tenemos algunas preguntas impor-tantes que nos gustaría hacerle a Dios. A los cuatro años, un niño normal quiere saber si cuándo truena, ¿es realmente solo Dios moviendo sus muebles? Y a los siete años, se pone interesante porque el niño quiere saber de dónde vienen las hermanitas y cómo pueden ser envia-das de regreso. Como adolescentes, queremos saber cómo quitar a nuestros padres de nuestras espaldas. Y a medida que entramos en la edad adulta, podemos querer saber por qué a pesar de que el Señor nos da tantas cosas buenas, nuestras vidas se sienten vacías o sin sentido. En el Evangelio de este domingo, escuchamos a los saduceos que tienen sus propias preguntas candentes que quieren hacerle a Jesús (Lucas 20). Este grupo tomó su fe tan en serio que la mayoría de las personas las encontraron molestas. Hicieron una pregunta tras otra. Al igual que los saduceos, los fariseos, otro grupo intensa-mente religioso, le hicieron muchas preguntas a Jesús a lo largo de su ministerio público. A estos se les pidió que intentaran atraparlo o meterlo en problemas. Preguntas como: “¿Con qué autoridad estás haciendo todas estas co-sas?” “Quién te dio esta autoridad; ¿es humano o divino?” “¿Y es legal pagar impuestos al emperador o no?” Una de esas preguntas es la larga que escuchamos a los saduceos que le hacen a Jesús en este Evangelio. La tram-pa que ponen es que ya saben la respuesta. Pero en su res-puesta, Jesús los invita a ampliar sus horizontes sobre Dios. Quieren saber sobre la resurrección, en la que no creían; si estás muerto, estás muerto, entonces, ¿cómo puedes estar vivo? Esa era su lógica, de ahí su larga pre-gunta sobre la mujer que se casó con siete hermanos. Jesús dice que sus ideas sobre la resurrección están equivocadas. La vida resucitada es una forma de vida completamente nueva; es la vida sin matrimonio, la vida sin muerte. En su respuesta a los saduceos, Jesús usa una lógica que los silencia. Si hubiéramos seguido leyendo esta parte del Evangelio de Lucas, habríamos aprendido en la si-guiente línea que cuando Jesús terminó de dar su respues-ta, “nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas”. Mis hermanos y hermanas, hoy, en la misa, intenten identificar si hay alguna pregunta candente que quisiera que Jesús respondiera. ¡No tengas miedo de preguntarlo! Pregúntelo en esas conversaciones diarias con Jesús, para las cuales todos debemos hacer tiempo. Mirar fijamente al cielo, escanear el horizonte o mirar por la ventana de la cocina pueden ser momentos en los que, después de haber-le hecho a Jesús nuestra pregunta candente, le damos tiem-po para responder. Él respondió la pregunta realmente lar-ga que le hicieron los saduceos. Démosle la oportunidad de respondernos. Nuestra Capilla de Adoración Se les invita a disfrutar en presencia de nuestro Señor en cualquier momento durante el horario de Adoración de 8:30 a.m. a 4:00 p.m., de lunes a viernes. Sentarse en su presen-cia trae paz y ofrece un tiempo de reflexión y meditación orante en nuestras ocupadas vidas. Siempre considérese bienvenido e invitado. Colecta Cooperativa Misionera 9 y 10 de noviembre de 2019 Este fin de semana, 9 y 10 de noviembre, el Padre John Fortune estará de visita por nuestra Parroquia para hablar-nos sobre la colección para el Instituto de Caridad Rosmi-nians, que también se llevará a cabo en este día. La colección beneficia la formación de hombres jóvenes en los seminarios rosminianos, particularmente en India y África. Su contribución anual es muy apreciada. ¡Gracias por tu generosidad!

Oración para Pedir Protección en la Temporada de Huracanes

Oh Dios, Maestro de este mundo pasajero,

escucha las voces humildes de tus hijos e hijas. El mar de Galilea obedeció tu orden y volvió a su

antigua quietud. Todavía eres el Maestro de la tierra y del mar.

Vivimos bajo la sombra de un gran peligro sobre el cual no tenemos control: el golfo, que como enojado e irritado

gigante, puede despertar de su aparente letargo, sobrepasar sus límites convencionales, e invadir nuestra

tierra, creando caos y desastres. Durante esta temporada de huracanes nos dirigimos a ti,

oh Padre amoroso. Evítanos revivir las tragedias pasadas cuyos recuerdos

están aún tan frescos en nuestra memoria y cuyas heridas parecen rehusarse a sanar con el paso del tiempo. Oh Virgen, Estrella del Mar, nuestra amada Madre,

te pedimos que implores con tu Hijo en nuestro favor, para que se digne librarnos de las calamidades comunes a esta área y nos conceda un verdadero espíritu de gratitud, para poder seguir los pasos de tu divino Hijo y así llegar a la Jerusalén celestial, donde nos espera una eternidad sin

tormentas. Amén.

“Que nuestro Señor Jesucristo y Dios nuestro Padre, que nos ha amado y nos haya dado un aliento eterno y una bue-na esperanza a través de su gracia, alienten sus corazones y los fortalezcan en toda buena obra y palabra". 2 Tesaloni-censes 2: 16-17 Hay dos lecciones importantes aquí. Primero, estamos lla-mados a ser generosos con nuestro aliento y esperanza. Cuando Dios nos muestra misericordia, debemos ser mise-ricordiosos con los demás. Segundo, ¡la alegría es contagio-sa! La alegría que recibimos al hacer buenas obras no solo nos fortalece, sino que también alienta a los demás. Com-parte la alegría de vivir tu fe siempre que puedas.
