JULY 11, 2021 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
...Fr. David Regan
As you already have been experiencing, we have begun to resume activities that we did prior to the pandemic.
Thankfully, this includes our life of the worship of our God within our parish and the celebration of the Sacraments.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, tolerance and kindness during these difficult times.
As we return to church, our concern continues to be the health and safety of our fellow parishioners here at Holy Name of Mary.
I would ask your continued patience and charity toward each other as circumstances develop.
Parishioners who are unvaccinated or whose health may be compromised as well as those who have continued concerns should continue to wear a mask.
The lifting of the dispensation to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses will take place on Sunday, August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Even though the dispensation remains in effect until August 15th, I encourage all of our parishioners to consider returning to an active in person participation at Mass and other parish activities.
May I also share with you the good news that Bishop John Barres will join us in a Eucharistic Procession on the evening of August 14 at 8 P.M. through the streets of Valley Stream and provide a reflection at the end.
These have been difficult times and yet I continue to be inspired and supported by the faith and commitment of our parishioners here in Valley Stream. May I express my happiness and gratitude to be able to serve here as your pastor.
FEASTS & CELEBRATIONS July 16 - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (1251). Carmelite tradition
holds that Our Lady appeared to St. Simon on Mount Carmel
and gave him a scapular. Wearing one has become a popular
way to honor the Blessed Mother.
July 22 - St. Mary Magdalene (1st Century). Mary
Magdalene was the woman from whom Jesus expelled seven
demons in St. Luke’s Gospel (Luke 8:2). She helped to
support Jesus’ ministry out of her own money and stood by the
Cross of Jesus with His mother. Known as the “Apostle to the
Apostles,” Mary was the one who first informed the Apostles of
Jesus’ Resurrection.
July 25 - St. James (1st Century). When Jesus called St. James
and his brother, John, to become apostles, they left their father
in a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee. St. James was one of
three apostles to witness Jesus’ Transfiguration, the raising of
Jarius’ daughter, and the agony in Gethsemane. St. James was
the first of the apostles to be martyred.

JULY 11, 2021 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
...Fr. David Regan
22 de julio - Santa María Magdalena (siglo I).
25 de julio - Santiago (siglo I).
martirizado.

EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the whole Christian life. A Eucharistic
procession, therefore, is a public witness of the veneration toward the most holy
Eucharist, conducted through public streets. It takes place in this way: A consecrated
host – that is, the real and substantial presence of Jesus Christ: body, blood, soul and
divinity – is placed within a monstrance, which is then lifted and carried by a priest who
leads the faithful in procession. Like a pilgrimage, a Eucharistic procession normally
starts at one holy place and ends at another. This earthly journey reminds the Catholic
faithful of their spiritual journey toward eternal life with God.
By processing with the Holy Eucharist in a reverent, prayerful and joyful manner,
Catholics can honor Christ in the Eucharist and serve as witnesses to the intimate
presence of God in the world and in each individual. Processions powerfully display
the Incarnation, or God becoming human, and thus speak of his merciful love
for all who journey to eternal life with him.

F M L Family Life Ministry
The start of a new school year is an exciting time filled with hopes, dreams
and expectations. It is important to have all the tools necessary for success.
Sadly, for some children, that is not always possible. For this reason,
Family Life Ministry, will be having a
“Backpack & School Supply Drive” to benefit the children of our St. Vincent de Paul clients.
If you would like to help us help them, we will be collecting new backpacks
and school supplies through Sunday, August 8, 2019.
Bins will be placed at the doors of the Church for donations. Any questions, please contact Renee Socci @ 516-426-2946.

COVID-19 - UPDATES
In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent his Apostles
out two by two. From the beginning of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul, members visit in pairs “two by two”,
those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there,
in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble
advice, and render assistance. Have you considered
answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
Pantry Needs: Paper towel, toilet tissue, pasta sauce,
juice, evaporated milk, canned meats, tuna, soup,
canned pasta, laundry detergent, soap, toothpaste
Please remember the poor boxes
as you leave Church today.

JULY 11, 2021 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The life of Saint Henry shows that even a king has a King. Even
the powerful are under “Someone” more powerful. Good kings
know that; bad ones don’t. King Henry was involved in constant
political maneuverings and military battles to protect and
expand his kingdom. Henry is the only Holy Roman Emperor
ever to be canonized a saint for a reason. He had deep faith.
He loved the Church. He lived the virtues to a heroic degree.
He received the Sacraments. He was devoted to Saint Mary.
Saint Henry was outstanding in utilizing his wealth and position
to advance the apostolates of the institutional Church. He
formed a new diocese, endowed others, founded monasteries,
donated land, and had close relationships with powerful
bishops. Under his care, the church became an arm of the
imperial government, with bishops of large dioceses even
becoming princes wielding both civil and ecclesiastical power.
Under Saint Henry the mingling of church and state was
mutually beneficial. It created a united love of fatherland and
religion, of culture and liturgy, of patriotism and faith, which
lasted until the early sixteenth century throughout all of
Germany and until the Napoleonic era in large swaths of it.
St. Henry is the patron saint of the childless, the handicapped,
and those rejected by religious order.
