    SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Opening of Churches during the week: Holy Spirit and St. Lawrence will continue to be open during the week for people to make private visits. However, only one entrance will be unlocked during the day at each church site. At Holy Spirit, it will be the main double doors under the canopy. At St. Lawrence, it will be the southeast doors off the parking lot. At those entrances, you will find Clorox wipes to be used to wipe down anything that you touch during your visit. Thanks for your help in keeping things sanitized during the pandemic.

St. John Paul II Parish Vision Plan A team of parishioners has joined our pastor in an effort to identify future initiatives for

our parish by focusing on certain priorities for the upcoming year. These priorities will be

determined by YOU, our parishioners, through an upcoming survey. This week everyone

will receive a postcard with information about how to access the survey online. If you do

not have internet access, paper copies will be available. Please take 10 to 15 minutes to

prayerfully read through and answer the questions. Survey results will be anonymous and

will be thoughtfully evaluated and taken into consideration as we plan for the exciting

    future priorities of our parish.

More Face Masks Needed: We are asking anyone who likes to sew, or who has already been making masks, to donate some of those masks to the parish to be available for those who do not have one. The masks that we would need are the “common” pleated style – they don’t have to have the filter. Meg Snyder from the parish has elastic that she will cut for somebody else to do the sewing. Meg’s cell phone number is 830-3544. Children’s sizes would be great as well. Please bring them to the parish office. Thank you for your help!

LIFE CHAIN: Sunday, October 4th, 2:00-3:00pm. Stand up, and show your support for the sanctity of life,

especially the unborn. Gather at the Carroll County Court House parking lot by 1:45pm. This event is

sponsored by Carroll Area Iowans for LIFE.

ST. LAWRENCE CHURCH BRICKS are for sale. There are approximately 3,000 bricks available at 25 cents

each. If interested, please contact the parish office, 792-9244.

  • KUEMPER NEWS: Monday, September 21: No School - Professional Development

Job opening at Kuemper - substitute food service workers needed. Contact Sue Kennebeck at 792-3313 or [email protected] to be put on the sub list to join the friendly staff at Kuemper Food Service.

Sponsor-A-Student at Kuemper You can enjoy giving an exceptional gift to a Kuemper student by making a gift to the Fr. Kuemper Society. Your gift will be helping a deserving student attend our parish

school. Last year, over 631 children at Kuemper received tuition assistance - 59% of all Kuemper students.

Without tuition assistance, these families probably would not be able to have their children in your parish’s

    Catholic school.

Feel free to drop your gift in the collection basket – mark “Sponsor-A-Student” or Mail to: Sponsor-A-Student,

Kuemper Foundation, 116 S. East St., Carroll, IA 51401. Thank you for promoting the educational mission

    of your parish.

CD rates have you down? A charitable Gift Annuity can pay you a higher rate of return, in most cases, than a bank CD. Annuity rates have increased. Please call Sharon Olerich in the Kuemper Foundation for a free illustration – 794-1877.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ THANKS and much appreciation to the volunteers who made calls to our many parishioners during the

Covid pandemic. The goal was to reach out to all our parishioners, letting them know we were thinking

of them and concerned for their needs. It was also an opportunity to update our data information with

current addresses and phone numbers. If a call to you was not completed please feel free to call the

parish, or myself, with any changes or most importantly, any needs you or your family might have that

the church is able to assist you with in any way.

With gratitude and blessings, Pastoral Minister, Jane Boes St Rose of Lima #6 Catholic Daughters will meet on Thursday, October 1st at the Family Table at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and meeting to follow. For reservations contact Bev Vonnahme at 712-689-2211 by Monday, September 28th. ( It will also be our annual baby shower. Please bring new items to be donated to the Carroll County Nest.) Come Join us for Mass at Holy Angels, Roselle on Friday, October 2nd at 6pm celebrating our feast day “Holy Guardian Angels”. Due to the Covid, there will be social distancing (limited spacing) and face masks will be required. Thank You ~ Holy Angels-Roselle

  • FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP For Iowa Catholics – 2020

Each election cycle has unique characteristics, and this one is no exception. This time it seems to be distinguished by threats: The threat of the coronavirus pandemic: Many of us live in fear for our lives and our livelihood because of the threat of COVID-19. We need elected leaders who will act out of concern for public health, including by their example of practicing the safety precautions, in order to ensure the safety of the workforce and students in schools. The threat to life: There are forces that threaten the unborn with abortion, or prisoners with the death penalty, or the aged and terminally ill with physician assisted suicide. We need elected officials who will be guided by science to recognize as a human person the child in the womb, the aged person in a sick bed, and all others, respecting the sacredness and dignity of all human life. The threat to human rights and to the common good: There are threats of people being denied their rights, as well as their access to benefits and to protection, simply because of their gender, color, country of origin, religion, or… whatever. We need elected officials who will enact laws that dismantle institutional racism. The threat to immigrants: DACA recipients live in fear of deportation from the only home they have ever known. Their parents and others live in the same fear, and having to return to the threat of gang violence, and oppressive governments, or poverty. We need elected officials who will stop talking and start acting to reform our broken, outdated immigration system, in order to accommodate these family-oriented, God-fearing, Church-going people, who came here for work to feed, clothe and house their families. Finally, there is the threat to our democratic process from those who are eligible to vote, and able to vote, but who don’t exercise that right and duty, or don’t exercise it conscientiously. We won’t tell you who to vote for, but we will tell you to vote.

Most Rev. Michael Jackels, Archbishop of Dubuque Most Rev. R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of Sioux City Most Rev. Thomas Zinkula, Bishop of Davenport Most Rev. William Joensen, Bishop of Des Moines

“Conscience is not something that allows us to justify doing whatever we want, nor is it a mere ‘feeling’ about what we should or should not do. Rather, conscience is the voice of God resounding in the human heart, revealing the truth to us and calling us to what is good while shunning what is evil.” ~ Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
