    Background of the programme

Water and sanitation programme was emerged inCBDP programme as a result of the participatoryneed assessment conducted among the costal areas ofTsunami Affected areas. People in the operationalarea, especially the water logged areas, were facingsevere shortage of pure drinking water and sanitationissues. Creating replicable low cost models in waterand sanitation, emphasizing on the maximumutilization of peoples knowledge and low costtechnologies is the prime objective of theprogramme.

KSSF with joint hands of Caritas India has developedlow cost models in water filtering mechanisms andsanitary latrines suitable for the local conditions ofeach project area. With the objective of developingmasons as a creative skilled work force available at

partner level, we organized three day trainingprogramme for filter well construction at Thalavady, the operational area of BODHANA. Mr. Rajesh P.D,Zonal Technical Officer, Caritas India was the chieftrainer of the sessions. Selected masons and pointpersons from partner agencies participated in thetraining programme.

    Objectives of the programme

To capacitate the trainee masons as a creative

skilled work force available at partner level

To introduce and make them familiarize with theconstruction techniques on filter well.
