The conversation surrounding the appropriateness of the "Raiders" name/mascot has been taking place since at least 2006, according to a timeline presented at a special August 4, 2020 Board meeting on the subject.
During the summer of 2020, concerns increased regarding the name "Raiders" and related imagery.

At the Board ’s August 4, 2020 Special Meeting, more than 140 public comments were heard over 4+ hours. Prior to the meeting, commenters were invited to del iver their comments l ive, and 30 did so .
Notices were also published on distr ict media advertis ing the meeting and invit ing eligible and interested community members to email their comment for reading at the meeting. A message was also sent to staff and famil ies on July 9.
To date, the video of the meeting has been viewed more than 2,200 t imes on the RTSD YouTube channel .

The Board recessed the August 4 Special Meeting to ref lect on the community ’s feedback and reconvene to discuss next steps.
The reconvened meeting took place September 2, 2020. At the meeting, the Board voted 9-0 to ret ire al l Native American imagery and 8-1 to ret ire the "Raiders" name. The Board directed administration to plan a community-inclusive process to select a new name/imagery.
On September 3, 2020, an announcement regarding these decis ions was published on the RTSD homepage and an email was sent to al l staf f and famil ies . 5

The Mascot Selection and Rebranding Committee will meet at least monthly through June 2021
The committee's introductory meeting is tentatively scheduled for February 18.
The committee will: • Collect, synthesize, and analyze information gathered from various sources
• Sources include: • Community and student surveys• Focus groups• Radnor archives and other historical resources• External branding and design experts
The committee will work collaboratively to put forth 2-3 final options for a Radnor High School team name and mascot to be voted on by students in grades 8-12.
