1 apologize Tor not getting back to you sooner, but your letter arrived while 1 was on vacation, and 1 only returned to work at the Archives this morning.

Based upon the evidence supplied and the concurrence in that evidence (meaning the digitized Archives and the MAIS database, both available online) by Dr. Peterson and Professor Marrus. I do not believe I should withdraw or suspend my determination that SNCP is in compliance with sections 12-501 through 12-511 of the State Finance and Procurement Law.

In my initial letter of determination. 1 failed to include the company's direct response to section 12-507, which Dr. Peterson encompasses in her final report when she writes, "Finally, it is my opinion that the Societe Nationalc des Chemins dc fer Francais has provided a detailed index of the records to the Maryland State Archivist and made that index available online."

As your letter points out. Professor Marrus' qualifications to assess the importance to the SNCF Archives, as well as his reputation as a careful and accurate scholar of Vichy France, are not in question.

ENTITY RESPONSE: Entity was owned by the Republic of France during World War II and was put atthe full disposition of the Nazi occupying forces by the Vichy regime in the Franco-German ArmisticeAgreement of 1940.
