LOOKING BACK: ACHEMA 2015.

Participation and visitor interest at ACHEMA 2015 made the trade show a great experience for us, as well as for our customers and visitors. Between June 15 and 19, 2015 more than 166,000 participants from around the globe made their way to the event in Frankfurt, where more than 3,800 exhibitors from 56 countries presented their innovations for the chemical, pharma and food industries. It was nice to see you there too!

Very memorable were the many quality discussions with professionals from around the world, the many newly formed relationships, and of course the presence of our trading partners, customers and other visitors, as well as the feedback we received for our

booth design and our products. We would like to thank everyone, who came to see us and hope that we have sparked your interest with our product innovations and services. It would be our pleasure to welcome you again.

The next ACHEMA will be held in Frankfurt on June 11 15, 2018. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

IDT recently invested in a stateoftheart CNC machining center to expand its production portfolio for metal and plastics. The addition of the CNC center was a logical progression of IDT’s expansion plans, particularly for the PTFE production. The investment followed the move of the plastics department to a newly constructed facility with more than 4,000 m² production and warehousing space, which was completed early this year.

“Our PTFE business division is well positioned and the addition of the new machining center is a wellfitting addition to our overall concept”, says Andreas Notter, one of the managing directors of IDT in Essen. “We specialize in the manufacturing of a variety of premium quality plastic parts, and have been able to build and excellent knowledge base in this area. Specific, costsaving solutions for molded parts and construction components, as well as small and zero production runs, are developed in close collaboration with our customers”.

The machining center offers superior precision and flexibility due to a variety of spindle and axle variants. Five axle simultaneous processing ensures excellent multifunctionality and allows for virtually any

machining task. Our response to market demand is swift and flexible, as PFTE semifinished products and moulded parts can be manufactured on site on our own presses and machines.

IDT uses primarily PTFE compounds by Dyneon; common materials are the modified types 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600/1700 and glassfiberfilled TFM™ 4105; other materials with fillers (e.g. conductive pigment, graphite and bronze) are also available upon request.

The production and processing of plastic moulded parts according to sketches, drawings or samples is done on stateoftheart CNC machines, which allow seamless processing up to a diameter of 1,600 mm.

Finsihed, as well as turned and milled parts manufactured by IDT include envelope gaskets, plug inserts, Vsleeves, seating rings, cover gaskets, Orings and system components for pigging technology.

IDT HONORED AS UP-CYCLING PARTNER.

IDT has recently been honored as official Dyneon UpCycling partner for fluoropolymers. Dyneon is a subsidiary of 3M Germany.

With more than five tons of returned PTFE waste, IDT became one of the first companies to recveive the 2015 signet.

“We are extremely happy and very proud to have received this award and recognition”, says Andreas Notter, a managing director at IDT in Essen. “It goes without saying that in our daily work and our production processes depletable resources are treated with care. Our aim is to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible”, Notter explains. “This also means educating our employees on how to handle those resources more mindfully”.

The recognition as UpCycling partner acknowledges

IDT’s continuous efforts to contribute positively to sustainability and to the recycling of Fluoropolymers are extremely heatresistant and are used as sealing and coating material. Up until now, there was no technology available to reclaim these valuable materials. They were either burned or disposed of.

The UpCycling procedure was developed to reclaim monomers with a high yield from endoflife fluoropolymers, which are replaced and fed back into production after a “purification” of the monomers.

Unlike with traditional recycling, Dyneon can use its system for extracting the valuable basic components to manufacture new fluoropoly mers at high yields and corresponding purity. This means that the fluoropolymer cycle can be closed for the first time, making it possible to save valuable resources. The process is an important breakthrough regarding the sustainability of these valuable hightech materials, which are essential for many applications in the chemical and automotive industry.

Dyneon opened the first UpCycling facility of its kind together with collaborative partners in Burgkirchen, Germany at the end of March. The facility has a capacity of 500 tons per year. Initially, the pilot plant processes fully fluorinated endoflife polymer waste

like unfilled PTFE, PFA and FEP. PTFE compounds with filler material will be added in a later phase.

IDT is a leading manufacturer of highquality technical sealing elements, packings and construction parts. We have been actively committed to environmental protection for many years. We focus on the sustainable use of resources and the advanced development of materials and sealing elements, which also supports our aim to reduce fugitive emissions in industrial plants.

After participating in the MiRO TAR 2012 as supplier as well as with our mobile warehouse and container service IDT was again on site during the TAR 2015. In addition to the 2012 services we were tasked with the quality assurance of flange connections and the training (according to DIN EN 15914) of the installation personell.

“We had a very good and successful working relationship with the MiRO project leaders in 2012 and implemented many of their suggestions to optimize our processes for the 2015 TAR”, says Wolfgang Schmid, a managing director at IDT in AnnabergBuchholz. “Consequently, we proved to be a reliable partner during this year’s major inspection as well”.

During the TAR, a total of 41 processing systems were offline between March and May. The primary goal of such a largescale inspection is to ensure longterm system safety and efficiency. MiRO, however, had expressed an emphasis on safety and quality. As a result, additional quality assurance measures were also implemented for gasket installation. “The fact that IDT was entrusted with the quality control of the bolted connections and the flange installation training underlines MiRO’s trust in our reliability and the quality of our work”, Schmid notes. In the runup to the inspection, IDT had already provided the DIN EN 15914 compliant training to several MiRO employees as well as staff of the contracting partner

companies. Additionally, a team of IDT application engineers was on site permanently.

All in all, more than 1,400 inspection logs were created each documenting a different amount of of assessed flange connections. “Projects like this one always teach us something new and show us how we can improve even more”, Schmid explains. “We appreciate the project leader’s very valuable feedback because it

will allow us to provide even better service during the next turn around”.

During the past few years, IDT has successfully accompanied turnarounds, revisions and shutdowns at PCK Raffinerie GmbH, DOW Olefinverbund GmbH and BP Gelsenkirchen GmbH. Here too, a major aspect of the turnarounds were quality control and DIN EN 15914 compliant flange installation training.

In early November, IDT and SGL Carbon held the “15 th Symposium for Sealing Technology” in Germany. The response of the nearly 100 participants was very positive. Many guests used the “meet and greet” on the night before the event to exchange information, deepen exisiting relationships and form new ones.

“The turnout and the keen interest in this event confirm that the presentation topics reflect the current information demand, especially for plant operators”, says Jörg Skoda, head of the applications engineering

department at IDT. This year’s topics included issues regarding DIN EN 15911, fire safety and the scope and consequences of inspection reports, among others.

“The quality of the Symposium is highlighted by our ability to recruit expert speakers from a wide variety of areas relevant to the industry”, Skoda explains. “Receiving a lot of valuable information in such a condensed and concise way is one of the reasons why many participants attend the event year after year”.
