The New Mahindra KUV100: a report from Autoportal.com
Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian car manufacturers, have been more popular in the
SUV segment, with their SUVs designed in a rugged manner, to attract clientele.
They have always manufactured diesel vehicles, which has been pocket-friendly,
for Indians, as diesel costs much lesser than petrol. However, as the cost
difference between the two fuels has come down, since the past 2-3 years,
because of some economic steps taken by the Indian government, M&M have finally
decided to plunge into the petrol-car market, and then was born the KUV100.
Price
As the car is to be launched in January-February 2016, the colors in which it will
be sold is not known. However, since this car is expected to be a compact-
crossover, it is expected that this car will cost between 4-7 lakhs, for its various
variants, thereby posing a stiff competition to Celerio, Beat, Brio, etc.

Engine
Though not much is known about its engine, speculation is rife that this compact-
crossover could be fitted with the 1.5 liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine,
which is already present in Mahindra Quanto, naming it mFALCON D75. This engine
is expected to churn out power and torque at 77bhp and 190Nm, respectively. As
KUV100 happens to be Mahindra’s maiden venture into petrol powered vehicles, it is
thought that the 1.2 liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine fitted into it, named mFALCON
G80, may deliver power at 82bhp and torque at 115 Nm, though this is yet to be
confirmed.
Interiors
Though not an SUV, the cabin of this car looks like that of an SUV, though the
dashboard seems smaller and the centre console has a vertical angle, unlike the
other cars. It is also speculated that, unlike the two bucket seats in the front,
there seems to be a possibility of a single long bench seat in the front, which would
be beneficial in accommodating one extra passenger. This extra passenger is said
to be seated, by removing the centre console and changing the position of the gear
lever. It is assumed that 6 people can be seated comfortably inside the KUV100,
with ample headroom and leg space. The rear seat is expected to be fitted with a
60:40 split folding option, to increase the boot space.
Exteriors
The beefy exterior design of the XUV500 has been incorporated into the KUV100,
as both these Mahindra vehicles, share the same monocoque chassis. The prominent
radiator grille and bumper are also similar in XUV500 and KUV100. However,
subtle, but distinctive, smooth curves and lines on its sides and rear, gives it a
different feel. There is a black protective cladding, all around the car, like an SUV.
The sides and rear of this car makes it look like a small hatchback, while the front
resembles an SUV.
