Library Calendar Device Day
Want to try out that new device you got for Christmas? Maybe you have one at home giving you fits and could use some assistance? This program is for you. Jill will be assisting with library services. Learn how to check out eBooks, eAudio books and magazines. Steve and Ray will be helping with those more technical issues. Just show up anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 24th. While registration is not required, it is encouraged. Our helpers would love to be able to research your devices and questions prior to your arrival. The best part of this program? It is all free! Bring your tablet, phone, laptop, whatever you can carry!
Valentines with Rikki
Kids, come on in and make some Valentines with Rikki on February 8th at 3:30 pm. Bring your class list with you so that you know who to address them to. Please RSVP for this event so the staff can be sure to have enough material for all the students. Call the library at 217-382-4113 to RSVP, send us a Facebook message or email us at [email protected].
Sharing the Love The library will be “sharing the love” with all of the Martinsville patrons during the month of February. We will be forgiving fines! How does this work? Do you have outstanding fines on your account that are keeping you from being able to borrow material? Just come in during the month of February and ask us to “share the love” by wiping out those fines! We will remove all fines from you account. This does not apply to lost or damaged material. You must come into the library and ask the staff to remove your fines. The fines must belong to Martinsville patrons. It is only applicable during the month of February as well. If you have any questions, give the library a call at 217-382-4113
What is a plant-based diet? It is a diet based on plants. It is centered around fruits, vegetables and whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds with minimal or no
animal-based foods like meat, fish ,eggs, or dairy. The library will be hosting plant based cooking programs on January 17th and February 21st at 5:30 pm. You don’t have to be on a plant based diet to enjoy this program. In January we will be making stir fry. February will be hummus, more than one way. Join us for some hands on learning, great take home recipes and some fun taste testing.
While it is not necessary to RSVP for this program, it is appreciated.
Program Cancelations
The weather is bad, will library program be canceled? How do I know? There are several ways to know if a program is canceled for weather at the library. If school is canceled due to bad weather the library programs are canceled as well. If we do cancel a program we will post it on the library Facebook page. Always feel free to call us and ask as well.
Senior Citizens are invited to join Burnsides Community Health center for bingo at the Martinsville Public Library Tuesday January 15th and February
19th at 1:30 pm. “Snow-tastic” prizes! Bring a friend! If you have any
questions, please call Amy Hannig at 217-826-2358. These events are free!

Community Calendar A hands-on, pounds-off approach to weight loss®
TOPS® (Take Off Pounds SensiblySM) is short for TOPS Club, Inc., the original weight-loss support organization. TOPS Club Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), noncommercial network of weight-loss support groups throughout the United States and Canada. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living, wellness and weight management, with exceptional group fellowship and recognition. TOPS doesn't pay celebrities to endorse us, and we don't promise quick fixes or promote unrealistic images of the "perfect" body. Instead we focus on health. TOPS can't do the work for you. You only get out of TOPS what you put into it. We can't guarantee weight loss just by attending meetings, but we can offer support through each stage of the journey, including after you reach your goal weight. The TOPS mission is to help and support our members as they take off and keep off pounds sensibly. TOPS is open to women, men and children (7 and older). We offer a network of thousands of weight-loss support groups across the United States and Canada. Annual dues are $32 in the U.S. and $44* CAD in Canada ($46 in 2019), plus nominal chapter fees to cover operating costs—on average, about $5 per month. Weekly meetings include private weigh-ins and professionally prepared informational chapter programs featuring current nutrition, fitness and wellness information. Programs provide positive reinforcement and motivation to adhere to healthy eating and exercise programs. In 2017, TOPS members collectively lost 270 TONS! For more information about TOPS in Martinsville stop by a meeting any Tuesday at 5:00 pm downstairs at the library. The first meeting is free!
The staff at the Library would like to thank the great volunteers who helped with the Holiday Open House.
