    Message from our Deputy Principal

There is always so much happening at MRPS!

This term we have had our 100 days of learning

celebration, book week author visit and parade,

the stage 2 and 3 spelling bee, stage 3 camp and

after school discos so far. There are so many

things still to come including stage 1 excursion,

LAaFF, NAIDOC celebrations, movie night and

our Fathers’ Day stall just to name a few.

No wonder everyone is a bit tired!

Today our K-2 NAP students attended a ‘Teddy Bears’ Hospital’ in our school hall. Some student doctors visited with some very sick teddies to talk about what happens when we visit the doctor. The visit was organised by Spark, a group which works with refugee families in our community, who also work with a group of students after school on Mondays. It was a great experience for our students who also learned about dialling 000 in an emergency, bones and x-rays, healthy eating and what stethoscopes are for!

The best way to make sure you know everything

that is happening at MRPS is through our school

app. Just go to the app store for your phone type

and search ‘Marsden Road PS’. It’s free for you to

download and you can start receiving notifications

straight away. Also, don’t forget Wednesday is note

day so check your child’s bag on Wednesday

afternoons for any notes. We also upload these

newsletters and all notes to the app for your

    convenience.

There is a lot of illness happening at the moment,

and our teachers are not immune. All efforts are

made to keep our normal programs running by

employing casual teachers when a teacher is

away. Unfortunately, there are times when there

simply aren’t enough casual teachers to cover our

teachers. When this happens classes need to be

split and that has happened this week. Splitting

classes is always a last resort, but at the moment

    is unavoidable.

When your child is away, please send a note on their first day back at school with an explanation for their absence. This is actually a legal requirement and if your child’s attendance falls below 85%, you may need to provide a more detailed explanation for their absence. Previous newsletters have outlined what is an acceptable reason for being absent from school. If you have visited the doctor, ask for a certificate, which can be sent in as the explanation for their absence.

  • This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21 August and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. To access the survey for our school go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/mrps2017 Miss Atkinson & Mr Verey

    WHY WE LOVE PSSA

Hi, my name is Karlee and I'm Nayana and we will be talking about why we love netball.

We love netball because it's fun to play and keeps you moving. I like playing centre and

    goal-attack. Nayana likes playing wing-attack and goal-attack.

Every Friday, our team goes to the Liverpool netball courts to verse other schools.

We have two amazing and fabulous netball coaches Ms Hatch and Mrs Finnochiaro who

teach us netball every week. They are both excellent at netball and have very good

    experience with netball.

We love netball and it’s part of something bigger called PSSA. PSSA is about

letting kids get out there and having a go at playing sport. Going out there and

playing PSSA will boost up your confidence and help you to always have a go.

So that’s why we love PSSA!

    PSSA SOCCER

PSSA Soccer is all about having fun and being a good sport. Your goal is to defend

your goals and score in the opponent’s, to achieve sweet victory. The defenders job is

to try to clear the ball or pass it to the attackers. Midfielders both defend and attack.

    Strikers score the goals.

We feel very proud and overjoyed to play PSSA soccer and represent Marsden Road.

Our last game was against Casula Public School and we had a lot of amusement. It is

also our jobs to coach the Junior teams; to run their substitutions and give them

advice on how to play. We passionately believe soccer is a beautiful game!

    Abdullah and Sulman, Year 5

In the past few months, the boy’s PSSA soccer team and I have had a great

experience. We have met many very talented and fair schools. Personally, this has

taught me it’s not always about winning, it’s about trying your best and having fun.

Our team has; won a few games, lost a few games but mostly drew. Our first few we

lost and drew because we were not communicating with each other. However, over

the weeks, we have learnt to work together and we have started winning a few

    games.

  • On Monday the 14th August Stage 3 students set off on our camp to Berry Recreational Centre. We had the opportunity to participate in many different and exciting activities including, archery, cable glide, rock climbing, a dark maze and a cookout, where we built our own fire and cooked our own damper on a stick.

The instructors were very helpful and the cooks kept us very well fed. The best part was the chance to be with our friends. It was an amazing experience and we would highly recommend all future stage 3 students to go along.

    STAGE 3 CAMP REPORT

  • As the mornings are still quite cool can you please ensure that your children are wearing their winter school uniform.

We have an increasing amount of children coming to school without

    jumpers or warm clothing.

Your co-operation with this to ensure your children are warm and

    healthy is greatly appreciated.

    FATHER’S DAY STALL

    WINTER UNIFORMS

Father's Day is a time, where all our wonderful students have the

opportunity to thank their fabulous fathers for their continuing love

    Week 7 on;

    Thursday 31st August 2017

opportunity to purchase 1 gift. Once all classes have visited the

stall, the remaining items will be sold on a first in first served basis

    at lunch time.

Please send your child along with some money on Thursday, so

they can purchase one of these wonderful gifts to say thank you,

    DAD!

450,000 individual items. This is your chance to help!

Once you have completed yours, you can place these in the box in the

school office to help our school earn points.

Help us enjoy the fun with Earn and Learn!
